I think/hope DC will make a new albumm in the new year which will be largely acoustic based, and on which his vocals will be in the lower register (i.e. no notes that only dogs can here). The album will feature Doug and Timothy but no others from the current WS line up.

Tour-wise: I just can't see any more shows of the like that we've seen over the last few years- he just can't cut it singing like that any more. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if DC continues to record but just stops touring altogether.

I think DC will sack the band, excluding Doug, call up Bernie Marsden, Jon Lord, Neil Murray, a decent drummer and put together an acoustic version of the band.

Bernie and Doug together in an acoustic form would work I reckon and Bernie can help out on the old vocal front.

Of course, in reality, this simply won't happen. But, hey, I'm a fanboy!

I doubt he'll turn into an album artist only. Touring is where the money's at, and I think this is the reason why he started touring again in 03. But I also think he still enjoys doing it, playing the rock star and getting the recognition.

Yes, that is a quite accurate description of the situation, I think. If he was satisfied with being a recording artist only, he would have continued on the ITTL path...

I would like to add that I don't think DC is that interested anymore in the creative process, in the sense that he wouldn't go on putting out album after album unless it really paid off.

Compare this to someone like Glenn Hughes who really seems to have a need for creating new music. And with a (much) smaller fanbase than WS, I don't think he's doing it for the money.

Yes, I agree with the comments about Glenn- he now appears to thrive on writing and making new music- perhaps making up for all the lost years.

As for DC, I take the point about touring being where the money is- but I do sense change in the air. I think pulling out of the recent US tour may well be a turning point in the way he chooses to perform live, or at least I hope so. I think we'd all like (before he retires completely) the chance to actually hear DC "sing" live once again as opposed to scream. And the only way we will hear this is if a new approach is adopted.

I do think it's coming- the introduction of acoustic numbers during the last couple of tours, as well as recent comments (at least some of them!)from the man himself on his website give me hope that he's contemplating change.

Agreed - I also sense a change, but it's also evident a new (solo) album is not top priority, with DC rather focusing on overseeing retrospective releases. Less hard work.

It's a shame but I think he's simply lost the hunger a bit with the voice not being what it once was and everything. And then he also likes his home life a lot I think.

With no touring on the horizon for 2010, who knows what will happen later down the line.

I think it's safe to assume WS really is on hiatus this time around, more so than the usual break in between tours...

I don't think David wants to produce albums that 3 people in Northumberland will buy. I don't think that's an indictment of DC wanting "money"....in a way, Glenn is very lucky to have a record label behind him. It's very expensive to produce, record, put out records and if you don't have a record label behind you (as we saw with ITTL) it can very nearly break you. With SPV going under, it doesn't seem likely that David will record again. It took him that long to find SPV alone...so nothing in the near future.

I don't see him touring the next couple years and I get the feeling that the band wasn't stimulating him anymore. I've been watching youtube and going through the old clips from last year and this year....he just doesn't seem as "in" to it as he was even three years ago.

First off, I would like to say we really don't know that much about the details of Glenn's contract with Frontiers, who's got the rights, how much Glenn gets etc etc. Frontiers is an indie label and I'm pretty sure it's not the most lucrative contract for Glenn.

I think the reason why it took so long for DC to find the right label was because he attaches a higher price tag to himself than Glenn does. I think DC is still used to the days of the big deals, and don't want to settle for much less. This delays recording processes, but if the creative hunger no longer is at its peak, then that doesn't matter so much as long as they can go on tour, where the real money is. Having toured the greatest hits for 4 years they needed something new in order to keep the interest in the band. Enter GTTB. And then they could tour again... emoticon Coming to the end of this touring cycle, I just don't think DC's that hungry to do it all again, especially when he's without a label once again.

True - less energy from DC, more walking around whereas 3 years ago he seemed intent on "putting on a show" any given minute out of the 90 mins they were onstage. Add the downtuning, and it just feels different.

Still, I think he will tour in some capacity in 2011, new album or not. Just the feeling I have.
