Reading 79 Lovehunter tour

Just been listening to this for the first time in ages (found it whilst looking for something elseemoticon )Brought back great memories i can remember running down the road from my girlfriends(now my wife) house to catch this being broadcast on the Friday Rock show with the legendary Tommy Vance.I can remember being absolutely blown away by the sheer energy of this performance it was awesome the band were absolutely blistering in those days and i had only just bought tickets to see them in Edinburgh.Such a shame this lineup only lasted a few short years they were one of the best live bands I have ever seen

I need to check out Reading 79 again. Listening to Reading 80 now, which if I remember correctly, is even better.

All in all, on a whole 'nother level than today's WS, in so many ways. 1) they felt like a band 2) they had Paicey and Lord 3) DC was another singer and at the peak of his powers 3) their energy that made them sound unstoppable.

Indeed they were. They were wonderful... so much promise and easily the natural successors to Zeppelin (if Zeppelin needed to be succeeded that is) if only Coverdale had sailed the ship properly.

I was at the front for Reading 80 when Snake came on and it was truly a magical night (having enjoyed Slade and then endured Def Leppard).

Agreed- both of these shows are wonderful, although I think they sound more polished at Reading 1980. Shame we couldn't get both these shows officially released in full.

Yes, exactly, less of a "bar band" and more of a monster rock and roll machine at Reading 80. Listen to Paicey all throughout the show and Cov in Mistreated... Incredible stuff.

Yep agree that the 80 show is more polished but i just love the rawness of the 79 show and of course the memories attached to it

Pretty much what i said in the original post daniel I had not long started going out with the girl i would end up marrying and can remember vividly leaving her house and actually running!!! the 2 miles home(no way i could do that these daysemoticon) to catch the Friday Rock show and record it with my old Cassete recorderemoticon
Adding to the excitement was the fact that i had only just got the tickets for the Whitesnake gig in Edinburgh which was a couple of months from then and this would be the first time i would be going to see Jon Lord ,Ian Paice and of course DC up to this point the only other gig i had been to was the awesome Dio era Rainbow in Glasgow of 77 so this for me was going to be almost like seeing Purple reunited happy days indeed emoticon

Oh sorry, I read it you went to the festival... Still nice hearing it on the radio I'm sure. Did the E'burgh gig live up to the expectations then?
