interesting post from DC ... thoughts of reactivating his own record label, plus sunrise sunset
Morning, All...& greetings from a rather cold, & breezy Tahoe...about a foot of snow last night...so, maybe this is the beginning...BRRRR...Christa...Yes, I was in the scouts for about 5 minutes...& when I was talking to the Purple office about the possibility of an audition, they insisted on a photo...of which I had none...so, I borrowed the scout pic off my Mother’s mantelpiece & sent that, reassuring my Mam that I would make sure she got it back...which she did...I understand it was quite amusing to the assembled Purps...& obviously, I got the gig...I remember saying in my application letter, “...as you can see from the photograph...I am always prepared...”...( ahem )...Joseph...Dragonshead is my label, & I may be reactivating it...My intention on ITL was not to scream quite so much, & be more respectful to the aging process...BAH!...There are songs on there I wish I’d arranged to be more Snakey...Still, ‘tis my Better Half’s fave DC album & who am I to argue with her...I produce according to the songs & the players & the identity we are going for...Eva...He seems to enjoy being a rock singer’s son...I have no doubt that some times it can be challenging...but, as I tell him...so can he...Hee Hee!...Marcio...Everything is fine with my vocal cords now...No problemo...Thank you...Ellen...that’s why you have to grab it when you can...Sorry you missed us...Lady Luck...That’s great...thanks for the promo, Hon...Little Miss...When I was very young, I wrote a little song called ‘Sunrise To Sunset’ for a girlfriend...it was definately too soft an approach for Purple, but, I seem to remember lifting a couple of lyric lines for ‘Soldier Of Fortune’...I played the original to Micky Moody who then played it for Bob Young, Status Quo’s tour manager at the time, & they asked if they could record it...why, of course, sez I...but, unfortunately, I don’t have a copy of their version...General...After I had my sinus surgery I found I had much greater vocal range...probably an extra, higher octave...also, I was living at 7,000 feet above sea level when Adrian Vandenberg & I were work on the ‘SOTT’ album...We originally started ‘Fool’ in the original key, but, it felt uncomfortably ‘low’ for me, so we settled on ‘A’...Of course, when I returned to sea level, everything felt incredibly ‘high’ to sing!...It was a good lesson for me to learn...I was initially concerned that the guitars on the newer version sounded a little ‘lite’, as Steve played Ibanez, compared to Micky & Bernie who play big, beefy Les Pauls...but, to be honest, I enjoy both versions for an assortment of reasons...& with that, it was off to find some dramatically coloured winter socks to parade around the house in...Hanging pictures & posters today from all stages in my career...fun...well, I’m not actually hanging them myself...( ahem )...I’m kind of choosing & pointing...still...it can be tiring...I remember the old axiom...”I love work...I can sit & watch it for hours...”...Love & LIGHT, Y’All...Stay safe...DC

Could...someone close to DC...hint him his style of writing...is quite heavy...to read...you know...all the triple dots...one has to wonder(ahem)...is the next sentence...next word...connected to...the last one...or to something...completely new...tough guys&girls...not so easy...to parody...cheers...R

Doing his own label again is a good idea if he can sort out distribution...many bands do this successfully...could be good.

geh.....David lost quite a bit of money on the whole ITTL/Drangonshed venture (thus why we have the current version of Whitesnake and not DC solo) Wojak is right....it depends on distribution (marketing) and if he can have another label take the brunt of the distribution cost.
SPV's bankruptcy is rather odd. They had a surprise success in GTTB...a large bonus paid out to DC (as is rumored) couldn't possibly have made them go under considering they also have Blackmore's Night and other acts on there. My inclination is to believe that the label was going under anyway, and signing Whitesnake was a last ditch attempt to stay out of bankruptcy

Well, let's be serious... a bonus SPV had from releasing Good To Be Bad isn't the kind of bonus that gives the company a financial success and freedom. Sorry ffolks, but in a commercial aspect Whitesnake's not of the high profile these days. And as for the BsN... well, they probably provide SPV with a satisfactory and stable income but still I guess it's a niche act compared to some metal bands that were on SPV.

Yeah, there are very few bands that alone can make a difference to a record company's overall finance.
WS of 1987 was one for sure.

I was referring to the bonus the GAVE Whitesnake to sign with them. Not the other way around.
SPV was merely pleasently surprised when GTTB ended up a success.

DC is also concidering to record covers, as I understand him:
JK...I’m actually thinking of ‘visiting’ some of my all time fave songs...ones that have inspired, or influenced me...Nothing firm just yet, before anyone jumps on this...still just considering options...&, of course, I would never ruin the surprise...
--
The question he was asked was if he would ever re-record any of the songs from his first solo album.

Yes Eirik I read that reply and in spite of him stating that nothing is firm yet and to avoid jumping to conclusions I thought I would list some of the music he mentioned last year as his faves that could be contenders for such an album project:
Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
At Last - Etta James
Hoochie Coochie Man - Muddy Waters
Only The Lonely - Frank Sinatra
Don't Think Twice, It's All Right - Bob Dylan
You Really Got Me - The Kinks
I Can't Turn You Loose - Otis Redding
Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye
I'm Not Talking - The Yardbirds
A Change Is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

Cheers Ovader!
I wonder why so many rock musos rate Hoochie Coochie Man so highly? It's a classic but what I mean is that is it the only Muddy Waters tune they've heard? The man did so many better songs.
