Ere's A Bit Of Purple Fantasy For Ya
Ok, so imagine that the Purple management have gone nuts and are offering $10mln each to 5 members of Purple to reform for one night only, and to play a 3 1/2 hour set list which will be determined by the management to avoid squabbling over what will be played and the running order.
In this fantasy land, the management are offering Deep Purple fans the opportunity to choose the line-up from 4 options. The management have decided to incorporate at least one track from every album and the set list (non-negotiable)is this:
You Fool No One
The Painter
Fireball
Child In Time
Anya
The Battle Rages On
Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming
You Keep On Moving
Wring That Neck
Well Dressed Guitar
Knockin' At Your Back Door
Solitaire
Stormbringer
Gypsy
Truth Hurts
Hallelujah
Why Didn't Rosemary
Place In Line
Don't Make Me Happy
Doing It Tonight
The Spanish archer
Strangeways
Clearly Quite Absurd
Pictures Of Home
Smoke On The Water
Encores -
Hush
Burn
Highway Star
Your line up options are as follows:
Whitebow
Coverdale, Paice, Blackmore, Airey and Glover
Screamin' Lord Satch
Gillan, Paice, Satriani, Lord and Hughes
They Did Ask Evans
Evans, Paice, Morse, Airey and Hughes
The Slaves & Roundabout Project
Lynn Turner, Paice, Blackmore, Lord and Simper
Given that this one-off gig is so important, all singers will be permitted to rest their voices and not tour for many months before the show so that they are in top shape. The chosen band will also be requested to practice so that the show is really tight but also encouraged to do extended versions of tracks to bring back the old "improv".
So who would you vote for and why?

Re: Ere's A Bit Of Purple Fantasy For Ya
First off - welcome back LG, long time no see!
Second - a question: will all the singers also be under any sort of 'order' or 'understanding' that any (hopefully, all as far as I'm concerned) exhibitions of stagecraft/showmanship/stage persona/whatever that fall into the category of 'Zoolander type male model '80s hair band' style will be excluded? I'm sorry, but the answer to this is critical to me as far as making my final selection.
I will say that right away, much as I'd welcome an opportunity to have Rod Evans performing again, the "They Did Ask Evans" line-up has been excluded from further consideration...my status as a long-term 'Blackmoreon' along with being a 'Disciple of The Lord' for just as long simply demand this decision.
Just thought of another question: is Hughes' 'whooooopy' caterwauling going to kept to a minimum, too? If he's part of a line-up as a bassost, I'd hope that he'd see that providing a firm, rockin' bass line should be his primary duty as opposed to trying to lead or front the band (in a vocal sense). The answer to this is also critical to me as far as making my final selection, as the "Screamin' Lord Satch" line-up is remarkably close to a MkVI concert, something I've always regretted that I never had the opportunity to attend in person . Admittedly, I'm also one of the people who've been suggesting & waiting and hoping for years for an official live release of MkVI, and this scenario might be the closest we'll come to having our wishes granted!
I also gotta say that some of the setlist selection(s) have me kinda...wary. I have to wonder if any of the various line-up's lead vocalists would be capable of giving "Child In Time" the type of treatment the track merits even with months of rest - the 'age(s) & years and years of work with the voice(s) factor' at play there, I guess...I suppose I really should just sit back & enjoy the scenario as it's just a fantasy and I guess in a fantasy world, all the vovalists will sound as they did while in thier respective 'primes' !
So, as the end of this post nears, I'm down to 2 choices: "Whitebow" or "Screamin' Lord Satch"...I'll have to ponder a bit more before making a final decision...

Whitebow because...one Blackmore, no Turner!

Re: Ere's A Bit Of Purple Fantasy For Ya
You could and it might be stronger than "They Did Ask Evans" but will it really blow the doors off on the Mk 2 numbers with no Blackmore, Gillan or Glover??!!
Mk 1 numbers might be a bit weak too.
It's basically Mk 3 with some woodling

The Slaves & Roundabout Project.
Oh, erm, arrgh. CIT sung by JLT. Every song sung by JLT. I'm not that sure anymore. But then again it's the only Blackmore/Lord lineup you gave us .
Can't we change JLT into DC?
