Your Fav "BEST OF"
Of all the "Best of" and "collection", which one is your favourite?
Weither it's the useful "Deepest Purple", the cheapo "Disky" collection , the interesting "Powerhouse" or the classic "24 carat"...

Love obviously.

Yes, for me too. It was the first time I ever consciously heard Deep Purple and made me a lifelong fan. I was fascinated by the back cover, which had pictures of the back catalogue and I set to collect them all as soon as possible. As I was about 10 years old, it took me years.
Powerhouse is not a best off, but since I bought it it was one of my favourite albums. I remember being completely blown away by what was the first live version I ever heard of Wring That Neck. I used to play it over and over again. It's still a record I miss dearly. I've long since worn out the vinyl - and I don't have a turntable anymore anyway. I should buy the Japanese CD someday, but only if it has the original UK artwork!
The best (the most comprehesive) is the CD version of Anthology. Very nice packaging, too, there are some live shots I've never seen before.

Re: Your Fav "BEST OF"
The two that I've listened to the most are probably "The Anthology" on cd and "Powerhouse", which at the time of its release was a treasure box with Cry Free and Painted Horse, previously unavailable. Also the first lp of singles a's and b's.
I also listened at lot to "The Anthology" on lp, which has a completely different setlist than the cd, it also features (then) never released tracks such as Grabsplatter or Freedom.
I really enjoy those best of (espicially when ther's a little something to spice it up), it's really another way of listening to the tracks, out of their original context.
I noticed that on the newest version of the anthology (which is called "double platinum" I believe), there were NO studio version of any post-reunion songs with Blackmore, and I can only assume that the Live versions are from Mark II B or C.
Weird isn't it?

Is there really a connection between Anthology and "Platinum Collection" or whatever it is called? There one with 1968-76 and some Morse-era tracks (thus dismissing 1984-1993 which makes the track list look really silly)? I think they are just two separate releases. Anthology seems vastly superior though I don't have "Platinum".

Well, the connection I see, is that it's basically the same songs in a chronological order. Each version adds the remasters versions and a couple of songs from the newer album.
The Anthology (cd), The very best of (cd) and Platinum collection (cd) are the same kind of best of as oppose to Powerhouse or Family and Friends or Best of in the 80's,...
Then again the Platinum Collection is a bit weird in the sense that it lacks the 80's (as you mention), where the Anthology is based on 68-76 and The very Best of has tracks from pretty much each album.
But I've never listened to Platinum collection either.

Re: Your Fav "BEST OF"
A few years back I made a MK2(a) CD for the car. I don't remember the track list anymore, but the point was to leave out all the best known tracks (CIT, HS, SK, SOTW) and include the outtakes / b-sides I love (CF, PH, IA, WABMC...) plus various favourite album tracks (MIAL, LW, OL...) in a random order. It was a pretty damn good "best of"!

Did the same with all the b-sides and rareties and called it "Strange Kind of Collection"

Re: Your Fav "BEST OF"
For probable nostalgic reasons, I go with "Deepest Purple / The Very Best of Deep Purple" from 1980.
It was my first album (cassette, actually) by the band and instantly became my favorite tape in my rotation.
I have the double cd "Anthology," but the 2nd disc plays nothing but silence (the shop I bought it from has a "no refund/no return" policy, so now it just collects dust in my collection).
