Hulk (2003)

You guys got to me, and I just had to get another Bana movie. I found the hulk on mega sale at the video game store(needed to replace my copy of Half-Life) and bought it. Then I noticed there is not topic on it.

Maybe I'm just a superhero comic fan, but can anyone else even tolerate this movie.

So far I'm about a third of the way through it, but dang his looks is worth the price and then some!

The critics bashed the movie, but I quite enjoyed it. I think I need to see it again, though, because I didn't really understand the ending.

(Off topic) - And, you play Half-Life?? I've been wanting to play that for such a long time! Big fan of those kind of games.

Wow! One of my own kind! I so often feel like the only girl who likes these kinds of games.

As for the Hulk-I don't pay attention to reviews when superhero movies come out. I loved X-Men, Spiderman etc. But rarely do you see one of these get good reviews. The only thing I didn't like about Hulk was it was so dark. I was pleasantly surprised when my sister sat down to watch it with me...so it can't be all that bad!

Me, me. I actually really enjoyed Hulk. It was different and seemed very adult and psychologically complex compared to some of the other superhero films(though I've loved most of them so far, X-Men, Spiderman, etc). Hulk was a little different in good way to my mind. I don't think it deserved the bashing it got. I think it just didn't match most people's expectations--which is to say lighter, less serious fair.

Yeah, this movie is a psychological thriller, but I can see why Eric doesn't want to do it again-which he has said over and over again. I must agree it is too dark, both in the mise-en-scene as well as character development.

For example, the line Jennifer Connelly has where she says something to the effect of "this is not funny, I was watching you die". If Eric was under the impression he was signing onto a comic book based film I could see his reluctance to do another.

I don't think that is what his reluctance is based on. In the interviews I've seen, the whole psychological aspect of it seems to be part of what attracted him to it. The complexity of the character, the fact that he needed to be "on" the whole time.

I think he isn't really keen on doing it again because he probably he doesn't want to repeat himself and he doesn't feel they'd do a good job on the second particularly due to the first not being the run-away success some people thought it would(though I don't know why, Hulk is popular but he isn't The X-Men or Spiderman, those are the big guns).

He's right. I read some comments from Avi Arad. And he said Hulk 2 will be much different than the first film, he referred to the sequel as the "light" version with it not being as heavy, or dramatic.

With Hulk in a way the only way to go was serious because otherwise there is almost no way to keep it from almost being self-mocking. It's probably the most easily cartoonish of the main super-heroes. He's 12ft tall, totally over-muscled and green! With a tendecy to wear bright colored pants that don't exactly color co-ordinate with the green. emoticon

Im gonna be totally honest with you, girls: the only reason I could enjoy the movie was Eric. If the Hulk was played by any other actor, I just wouldnt even keep watching it...
Differently from the Spiderman, which I really enjoyed a lot...
The Hulk is too dark, too tedious, too long.
We have to wait 42 minutes for the green monster s first appearance.
And I have always enjoyed Hulk in the Marvel comics...

Andromakhe,

Brush that up to the fact I wrote that post late at night. I think Eric took the role because the Hulk has always been the Dark superhero. But I believe he was disappointed in the mise-en-scene. It was just too dang dark. Looking up the interviews now....if I can find quotes I'll edit this post.

Edited to add: here is one quote:

quote:

Question: Are you doing Hulk 2

Answer: I wouldn't know. Am I? I don't have a scoop for you. It would depend I guess

Question: if you did it, would you like it to be lighter than the first one?

Answer: I think there would be room for the film to be lighter, yes.
