Re: The Lady's Round Table
Fanatic follows the stairs down, turns into a big hallway and suddenly stays in front of a wall. Where the hell am I now? Didn’t I follow the same way as earlier this afternoon? This evening wasn’t getting better, just worse and worse. She feels like crying. No, she wasn’t near as strong as she made most people thinking. No, she wasn’t fearless. And no she wasn’t nearly as independent from anybody as she wishes. Fanatic leans against the wall and slides down on the floor. A tear is running down her face.
It has been a long time since she has felt that lonely. At home she had at least her friends and maidens. But even when she was accompanied by them she had this pain inside her.
She knows exactly where this pain came from. It was the disturbing loose of her mother. She would never forget the day when the two of them went into the forest this hot summer seven years before. The were completely alone and the surrounding woods have always been safe. That’s what the thought. The bigger was the surprise when there was suddenly a rustle in the trees. Again the pictures formed in her head. Clearly as if it would have happened just yesterday. A bunch of outlaws built a circle around them. Fanatic and her mother had no chance. They stood there pressed against each other, unable to do anything. A river of teardrops runs down her cheek. And she has to pull open her eyes because of the intensity of her memories. The men were armed. And with the first stroke her mother fell down to the ground besides her. She hears a shaking scream.
Lady Fanatic! Lady Fanatic!
The men grasped her shoulders ready to kill. She tries to get rid of them but has no chance.
Lady Fanatic! Open your eyes! No, she couldn’t...She wasn’t capable to see her mother in a lake of blood next to her.
Open your eyes! That’s a command! She feels movement around her. Lots of people. Someone squat in front of her. The pressure on her shoulders was leaving.
Leave us alone! A dark, manly voice instructed. It sounded very pleasant. But she couldn’t remember this voice in her memories. The sounds around her faded away.
Lady Fanatic! Open your eyes! Finally she can’t resist any longer. Slowly and with fear that she would see her mother again she followed the order. A pair of deep, dark eyes was looking into hers. She tried to move backward, but she couldn’t. She was caught in a trap again. Please! Let me go! She tried to crawl away, but the person with the brown eyes hold her back.
Lady Fanatic! You are dreaming. Wake up! She swallowed hard. It was nothing than a dream. You are safe. You are at my court. Nobody will do you any harm! I promise! She opens her eyes again, trying to register as much of her environment as possible. She recognises the man in front of her and her face gets pale. She is embarrassed.
I’m so sorry....I didn’t know......King Erictor...It’s just....My mum.... Fanatic mumbles and new tears are filling her eyes. But to her surprise the King pinches her shoulders friendly. You don’t have to apologise. Everyone has bad days. I don’t know what makes you crying but as long as you don’t want to tell me, I won’t ask. He smiles sympathetic.
She swallows again. Should she tell him? Better not, he would probably laugh at her. And she was sure that he wouldn’t understand her. Thus, she left his last sentence open.
But today is the Royal Feast. And I shouldn’t behave like a little girl. She felt stupid and ashamed, crying in front of her beloved king. She didn’t want anybody to see her that weak at least of all King Erictor. Now everybody would know about her emotional breakdown. As if he would read her mind Erictor said I assure you that nobody will ever know of this little incident. His warm smile melts away the ice in her heart.
Come on. Do you feel like attending the Feast now? He reached for her hand and pulled her up from the ground. She fixes her dress and tries to assure that her hair ain’t to messy. You look beautiful, Lady Fanatic. No wonder my brother has had an eye on you.
Please, my king, don’t say such things to a young Lady like me. It is disturbing. They both have a laugh about it and Fanatic feels a lot better. She never thought that a king could be that humorous, friendly and gently. He leads her trough the halls and suddenly she didn’t has the feeling anymore that the castle was that huge. They stopped near the Great Hall.
I’m sorry to leave you alone from that point on. But you have to hurry and find your seat at the table. I will follow shortly. He smiles at her again and touches her shoulder gently. A sad look is on her face. But I don’t know anybody in there. And I already had a little controversy this afternoon with two noble women. Erictor burst out into laughing You had what? Pardon me, my Lady, but this is too funny. Fanatic looks at him not sure what to think about this situation. Was he now making fun of her or what?
Lady Fanatic. I think that you have this ability to get into conflicts from your dear father. He is just the same way. Unfortunately I never had the chance to meet you mother. But I am sure she was a lovely woman.
No. Not again! She couldn’t help herself, but a single teardrop found its way down her cheek.
I’m sorry, dear. I didn’t want to make you cry...
King Erictor! It is time! a call made both of them look up. The master of ceremonies was waiting outside the Hall to proceed.
Please! King Erictor. I can’t go inside there alone. she whispers. You can! He said in a strong tone. Hurry! You have to be in there before me. With that he pushes her forward. She turns to him with a helpless look but he blinks at her. Fanatic tumbles down the last stairs. The master of ceremonies gives her a you-are-way-to-late-young-lady-look but leaves her in without any other words for which she is very grateful. Nothing would have been worse if he would have drawn any attention to her. A servant takes her to her assigned seat and she sits down making herself as small as she could.
Please. Let this be over soon.

Re: The Lady's Round Table
- My lady, your mother loses her patience awaiting you! , - old Magda clutched her narrow lips and pierced Anna and her maiden with frowning glance. Both girls blew hard of quick walking.
- Leticia, come quickly to my room and bring all the things for dressing here, we’ll make our final preparations … Thank you for your care, Magda, I need your help right now, - Anna looked up at the pale wrinkled face of mother’s servant and forced herself to smile. Ohh, this immortal jade, she was always ready to spoil everything!
The door into mother’s chamber was opened, Magda put away heavy curtains swiftly and Anna came in. Lady Krizia of Sonadora sat in front of the fireplace with flowing hair and fingered nervously her necklace.
- Mother…
- Now tell me, what’s the matter of vital importance carried you away for so long? Where’s your respect to me, to the court, to your king? Why I had to sit here and wait until my one and only daughter would decide to stop chatter with her precious friends and return into the castle to get ready for such an important evening! And Leticia! You know, she’s the best in doing hair-dresses… Now look at me – am I ready to go out? Magda! Stop cleaning her cloak!.. Anna, don’t you see? Don’t you see that our fate is in your hands? So many honorable men around and… even our king is still unmarried. What a chance!
- Mother, I wouldn’t like to upset you, but you know my feelings…
- Are you talking about that unknown knight? Well, he’s sweet. But what’s more? What can he offer you? Months of waiting in the cold bedroom?.. And he’s too young and pretty to be a good husband. I’m not sure if he hasn’t a dozen of bastards around the kingdom…
- No! Mother… why? I love Galahad. So don’t speak it that way… please.
- You love him! Feelings are not the thing to rely on, believe me, darling.
- Oh, it’s so boring to hear the same phrases out every corner… you’re talking like an old maid!
- But I am… - Lady Krizia turned her head and looked into Anna’s eyes, - be sure, you’ll talk the same way to your own daughter in a couple of decades. You may please yourself with your dreams as long as you wish, but you must leave some free space in your mind for real life. How long do you know that man? Did he promise you something? And where is he now? Why I don’t see him lying at your feet? It seems he didn’t miss you much... Ahhh, Leticia! Come here. Look - it’s time to go, but we’re still bare-headed!
Leticia came in hastily, put some dressing-up on the bed and laid carefully the jewels on the fur bedspread. Lady Krizia sat down in front of the mirror and Magda started to comb her long black hair, already intermitted with grey tresses. In a minute the younger maid came running to her and placed a fantastic headgear on a dressing table. Magda screamed of rapture. Leticia started to work deftly with her hands and soon lady’s hair was elegantly laid in a beautiful weaving of locks. At the end she took the headgear and put it on lady’s head. Now it was Magda’s turn to help her mistress with dressing. Leticia called Anna’s name softly, but the young lady didn’t hear it. She sat on the edge of mother’s bed not listening to flattering talks of both maids and felt herself frozen inside out. What if all her dreams were just dreams and she believed in non-existent things? Both Luinaris and Tina, and also Julie had already seen their lovers, but Galahad… why didn’t he find the opportunity to meet her?.. Though they came later than other guests, he could lie in wait at the gates or at least send a servant with a letter or simply with some words of greeting. What if her mother was right?.. Suddenly she felt someone touched her shoulder – it was Leticia, her face had an expression of anxiety and Anna gave her a sham smile to show she’s all right. Then she stood up and went obediently towards the chair at the mirror.
After leaving the Steward’s chamber Galahad stopped for a minute and tapped on Gawain’s shoulder:
- Now, my friend, I must see her… Wish me good luck.
- I do! And… don’t tell her unnecessary things, women and truth are not close friends. She’s so subtle… And you look like a fool with your pale face! You want to frighten her? Go now, time doesn’t wait.
- Thanks, I was always sure of you. Maybe tonight you also find your one and only queen!
- I’d like her to be a queen! – Gawain burst into loud laughing and moved away.
Galahad went downstairs and rushed into multi-colored crowd in front of the palace. Looking around, he tried to make out Anna’s face among that striking mixture of elite and servants, but she wasn’t there and the young knight went to the guard in front of the entrance to find out the location of ladies of Sonadora. One of the guards offered him help to show the way and Galahad gladly went after him into a crooked corridor. Well-dressed dames and gentlemen passed along Galahad and his heart sank every time he saw a female silhouette in a distance. Finally the guardian stopped at one door, pointed on it, bowed and retreat hastily, just his steps echoed in empty hall. Galahad made a deep breath and knocked at the door. No one answered. He pulled carefully the massive oak board, it creaked slightly and opened. Heavy curtain fenced the view of the room and Galahad said hesitatingly: - Ladies?.. Silence back, just logs crackled in the fireplace. He moved the curtain away and slowly went in.
The room was empty and laid in darkness, hardly lighted by the embers of the fire-place. He looked around, waiting until his eyes would adapt to dusk. Little by little he began to make up subjects in front and beside him. He saw an elegant arm-chair with some cloth on it, the couch, covered by fells, beautiful fretted table with some needlework and several parchment rolls on the edge… One detail suddenly drew his eyes; he came closer and peered into one roll – Lord, it was tied up by his gold medallion-lace! Burning with shame and curiosity, he carefully took out this piece of parchment, stepped to the fire-place, put away the lace and unrolled it. The blood rushed into his head as soon as he saw what was inside of it: his face… tens of sketches - full faces and half faces, his eyes, his lips… and here, at the foot of the page… two heads - male and female – they were kissing… Galahad lowered himself on a marble step of the fire-place and let the parchment roll up. He fluttered. Could he have any doubts now? He passed his hand over his forehead – it was damp. He must see Anna immediately; he must capture her and never let her go. He must… The curtains moved and two young ladies came in, one of them carried a torch.
- Yes, the silver one fits better…- suddenly Leticia screamed and jumped back. Anna stopped and stared at Galahad with her eyes opened wide. Then she raised her hand to her face and looked at him through her fingers. Slowly her eyes closed and she began to settle down on the stone floor. Galahad reached her in two steps and grasped her weakened body.
- Anna, please, look at me, my love… No… please, wake up, sweetheart, wake up… - he touched tenderly her cheeks and clasped her head to his bosom, stroking her hair. How long did he seek for the moment he would hold this fragile flower in his arms!.. Finally he felt her hand on his back and saw her head moved; Anna lifted up her face and looked into his eyes.
- It is you… - she whispered and stepped aside. The scared servant pushed up a small stool to her lady and helped her to sit down. Galahad kneeled before her and tried to take Anna’s hand, but she put it away and blushed.
- What are you doing here? – She asked quietly trying not to look at him.
- I beg your pardon, my lady, - Galahad bent his head, - I couldn’t wait to see you… and… I knocked, but… there was nobody to answer me and… please, I don’t know what happened to me, I acted like a madman! And I am a madman since I met you...
- No, don’t say this, you embarrass me…And, please, don’t follow me now, my mother is waiting outside and she doesn’t welcome such conduct. We shall meet at the king’s feast. I must go… - she stood up and this time Galahad caught her hand and leaned to it with his lips. Anna closed her eyes and felt her thumping heart. Is it possible to leave him now?
- My lady, you forgot the diadem! – Leticia’s voice broke the silence and the lovers had to get back to reality. Anna tore away her hand and turned to Leticia, letting the maid put on her head a refined silver diadem.
- I shall always appreciate this beautiful thing: we’ve seen each other because of it, if I’m not mistaken - Galahad rose up, - You look like a queen, my lady…
Anna convulsed. If her mother just heard these words…
- Please, stay here for a while, - she said and went out without looking back, followed by the frightened maid. Galahad stayed alone. His soul trembled. Suddenly he ran to the fire-place, sized the parchment, unrolled it, found the kissing couple at the bottom and kissed tenderly the female’s head.

Re: The Lady's Round Table
Tina looked around still feeling uncomfortable and slightly surprised that King Erictor changed the protocol. Usually he doesn’t care about a Master of Ceremonies to introduce the guests, the Noble men and ladies and this time there was a distinguish man who knocked with a ceremony staff on the floor to announce the different Lords and Ladies.
She plucked at Tristanirs tunica who was talking to a knight next to him.
He turned and glanced down to her even a little bit annoyed because of the interruption.
What’s the matter?
Tina really couldn’t stand this behaviour and she was slightly nerved anyway. This strange guy in their rooms, the busyness during the last days, the strained mood between him and her, the noise around, the strange feeling she has since she arrived here and the weird incidents – all that wasn’t made to set her mind at rest.
I’m sorry that your nice pendant dares to disturb you. I guess I better look for anybody who is willing to talk to me. You didn’t tell me Erictor inducted a Master of Ceremonies for tonight! We sneaked in like thieves and I wondered why this guy looked at us so mistrustful. Go on talking about important stuff, your wife looks for her amusement. Tina whispered whose sentences, her green eyes looked hurt.
She turned and dodged his hand grapping for her arm.
Tina knew that her behaviour was far away from being reasonable at least that she left her place next to him.
Thank God did nobody hear what I told him.
She reminded of her fathers words.
My whole sympathy for the man who is going to marry you one day. I’m afraid I made a fault not to send you to your aunt before six years. There was no woman teaching you discipline, respect and the right behaviour in royal circles. Liam and Anastacia would have loved to induct you. Well it’s too late now and instead of a daughter I have another son, as if I haven’t got enough. And I fear this thickheaded girl who speaks first before she starts to think is even worse.
A huge sigh followed this speech.
Well Tristanir knew who he marries.
Tina played with the pendant of her necklace. Actually not the nicest but it was one of the last things she owned from her mother.
She winced, somebody tapped on her shoulder. Tina turned around and looked in a known face.
McKinnon! What a surprise to meet you? I’m delighted to see you again after such a long time!
She had to pull herself together not to hug him, which would have been, without any doubts, the worst thing she could do. So she smiled at him to express her gladness to come across him.
He bowed and kissed her hand It’s a pleasure for me as well. I didn’t know you were here My Lady.
Ewan McKinnon was a handsome tall man with dark curly hair, which came down over his ears. Mysterious blue eyes looked smiling at her which causes crinkles around them
I see you didn’t change a lot since you’re here at the Royal Court. he said with a meaningful glance to Tristanir who watched them but couldn’t come over to find out to whom his wife was talking.
Tina blushed and sized him up. Nice tartan by the way. Her glance went deeper eying strong, trained calves where the kilt ends. Her brows bent and she couldn’t prevent smiling.
How’s your wife? She looked up. Where is she? Tina looked around.
His face darkens and his eyes turn grief-stricken. Ewan was about 10 years older than her but looked even older now.
She died before three years!
She died?! Tina looked at him horrified. Oh my God, I’m sorry I didn’t know
Seeking for the right words whose could express her sadness she laid her hand on his upper arm.
None of them noticed a guy coming near till they hear an ironic voice.
This time I’m sorry that I dare to disturb you An arm was laid on her hips and Tina was pulled closer to Tristanir who could escape from his talk finally.
Two men sized each other up.
May I introduce? Tina quickly said.
Lord Mckinnon this is my husband Tristanir Arcanian Sir of Skye Manor. Tristanir may I introduce Lord Ewan Mckinnon to you?!
I hope you enjoy your stay Mckinnon. Is there a particular reason you honour us with your presence?
I just followed the invitation of our King and I hoped for a nice event.
He looked at them
It was a pleasure to meet you again My Lady and even a bigger one to get to know your husband! bowed nodded to Tina and edged away. Her glance expressed an apology for Tristanirs behaviour.
Her husband’s arm was removed from her hips. Who do you think you are? She didn’t look at him and her mouth barely move, while she smiled at someone who passed by.
She turned and their eyes met.
You don’t know what it looked like to watch you talking to Mckinnon, do you? I felt like an idiot seeing you coquetting with him.
I didn’t coquet! I know Ewan for more than 15 years now. He married my mother’s cousin’s daughter and she lived with us before 15 years where he visited her. So I got to know him. You don’t have problems seeing me talking to Gawain or any other of your friends. She said it quiet but certain and looked seriously at him. He told me he lost is wife before three years. Do you think that’s coquetting? I don’t think I looked very happy hearing that. You’re a spy of his majesty you shouldn’t spy after your wife. I know quite well on which side I belong. Let’s talk later, we are awaited! Without giving him the chance to answer she turned round again.
They went towards the knight’s table and took a seat. At the moment she sat down the Master of Ceremonies welcomed Luinarys and Arthurian. Tina was glad, finally somebody to talk to without reaping mistrustful glances. Vanora, Bors wife, sat two places away. She was a nice woman but too busy with her home and children and so they didn’t have close contact.
She and the others rose to meet with the deserved honour.
Knock knock
The ceremony staff knocked on the floor. The faces went towards the door, all people rose again and stepped before their seats. The women curtsied the men bowed, the king arrived followed by his younger brother and the stranger.
Erictor reached his place, took a goblet of wine and started his speech.
quote: Even a noble lady from the far north of the country didn't spare no efforts to travel south .. a warm welcome to Lady Fanatic of Hogwarts from the North Wall!
Tina glanced surprised to Luinarys when he mentioned the young girl out of the garden.
While the king greeted all the guests her thoughts drove into other directions.
Secretly she starts to seek for a special known face among all the people in the hall.
She toasted with the others and sat down. Plates were brought in, enough food to feed all the people.
I bet there are enough people who hungered the last days to get even more of this free food.
Her attention was caught from Lancehot who came in disintegrated to take a seat next to Arthurian. Tina tried to catch a glance of Luinarys but she looked like if she was tiddly, which couldn't be but her eyes shined and her cheeks were slightly red.
She looked down the table. Galahad wasn’t here, which was unusual and she felt sympathy for him. He missed the Kings speech
I don’t think Arthurian was very delighted about his absence?!
She turned and looked through the hall. After a while Tina frowned.
Anna and her mother are missing as well. And I can’t find Julie. Her behaviour was weird anyway today. I wish I could ask Luinarys.
Her glance wandered around. This time seeking for Lady Fanatic and where she took her seat.
Do you look for something special? A soft whisper next to her ear.
Tina turned to eye her husband
Have you noticed Galahads absence? And Lady Anna and Lady Julie are missing as well. I start to worry. She looked sorrowful at him.
Fortune assists the daring. Like a lightening did this thought cross her mind. The motto of the McKinnon Clan.

The feast continues ...
Many different feelings and thoughts reached Luinarys, after King Erictor had greeted his subjects and confidants – forgotten was the man, who sat next to her, and who was her sworn husband and father to her daughter.
He looked directly in my eyes ... for the sake of all forefathers – how could I forget his incredible deep, brown eyes?
And she felt again that wonderful happy feeling, she had had, when she first saw the sovereign at the tournament at Sanderstone Castle.
She tried to get a glimpse of the ducal table, where the king, his brother and the ducal family members were busy with chatting, laughing and eating.
He is very handsome .. and polite .. and gorgeous. Luinarys detected rapturously and avoided a dreamy sigh. She felt her cheeks hot and startled, she took a deep sip of red wine and ate some white bread.
Fortunately, her husband had not yet noticed her inner enthusiasm for Erictor – he whispered angrily with Lancehot, who came belatedly to the feast. Luinarys could only pick up some snatches of their conversation.
... could not find ... searched all rooms ... dresses are still there
Finally, Arthurian shaked his head with disbelief. Calm down, Lancehot! Let's wait and see. You will find her – trust in Tauro's strength!
Lancehot sniffed angrily. Tauro's strength ... he murmured slightly amused. Thank you for that advice, my leader. he added barely audible and emptied his goblet of wine.
Arthurian looked displeased at his best friend and furrowed his brow. Slowly, he exchanged glances with Gawain and Dagonet (Bors was too busy with eating and drinking) – finally Dagonet nodded at Arthurian and left the table.
Arthurian, what is going on? Luinarys asked her husband worried. Why did Dagonet leave the hall? She also glanced at Lancehot, who averted his eyes and shrugged.
And what was this quarrel about?
Her husband owed her an explanation, but instead of answering, Arthurian's gaze frozed, when he suddenly noticed Galahad at the doorway. The young knight looked uncertainly into the hall and then hastened to the knightly table.
I am very sorry, Arthurian. he apologized with a red head and took a seat next to Gawain, who gave him a chalice of wine and a smirk, too. Everything alright, mate? he whispered.
Yes, oh yes. Galahad answered embarrassedly and glanced at Arthurian. He felt guilty, that he missed the opening of the feast – and the look, his leader gave him, said more than hundred of words.
He is very displeased. Galahad sighed inwardly. But it was so important to meet Anna ... I will endure every punishment for these moments of privacy!
His self-assurance came back, and he lifted his goblet to toast their king. Promptly, all knights (and Luinarys, Tina and Vanora, too) raised their chalices – expectant views to Arthurian at the head of the table.
Luinarys changed a glance with Tina. She felt uncomfortable actually. Something was wrong here ... Arthurian was obviously upset about Lancehot's behavior and Galahad's late arrival, and then Dagonet left the table to go away – and after all, Julie wasn't still in the Royal Hall.
For a honorable tournament ... for our beloved king ... and for the power of Tauro! Arthurian said in a calm voice and swallowed half of his goblet.
The knights emptied their goblets silently. Only Bors gave a belch finally.
Well said, Arthurian! He roared. But you should add, we also toast for good luck with our women and other pleasant things, hehe. He laughed insinuatingly, until his wife jostled him.
Stop that, Bors! she hissed enragedly. Try to behave like a knight ... not like a drunken dork! She shakened her head despairingly.
I am very sorry, my lady. she said towards Luinarys. But Gawain and Galahad only laughed at her – even Lancehot grinned.
No, that's fine, Vanora. Luinarys hurried to say and smiled friendly, though she hasn't listen to Bors' chitchat.
Where's Julie? she asked herself anxiously.
When Arthurian, who had stayed silently, passed a plate with venison to her, she bent to him and whispered:
Love, what's wrong with Lancehot? Bad news from Lady Julie? she looked fearfully at her husband.
I don't know, Luinarys. We wait and see, alright?
It sounded more like a command than a simple statement. And his glance gave her the obvious hint to stop asking.
Sorry, Arthurian. she mumbled and dropped her eyes. Suddenly, she was off her feed.
Why does he never give me a clear answer? Am I a stupid woman in his eyes? Am I not capable of knowing secrets or bad news?
Sad feelings reached her.
Lancehot followed their conversation, and he felt sympathy for the young lady, though he was very worried about Julie's disappearance.
My lady, everything is best, I promise.
He gives her an encouraging smile and toasted at her.
Arthurian only glanced at this friend, but remained silent. This evening got worser with every passed minute. There were so many things, which concerned him – many news, which troubled his mind. He was even barely able to sit here and to have a nice conversation with his trusted friends and his beloved wife. He wanted to talk to Liam Norther immediately to share the doubts and fears of this knights – and to learn new information about these spy ships. Of course, he was happy to see Luinarys again and to have some private minutes with her – but the problems, which menaced the kingdom, ranked first for him. He could not stop thinking about them. And he worried about Briseis, still staying at Grail Hall in the North.
What, if these ships will attack the northern coast soon? Are there enough armed men to defend the coastline and the lands of Grail Hall and Chassalla? What will happen to her, if the defence line breaks? Hopefully, Dagonet will arrive at Grail Hall before an attack takes place ...
He could hardly swallow a deep sigh. There would be many discussions and quarrels among the noble men and councellors of the king during the time of the tournament – he wouldn't have much time for his wife, though he deeply wanted to have some hours in privacy with her. He had really missed her, although he wasn't that kind of man, who showed his feelings frankly in public, but rather treaded her like a close friend than his lover. But he couldn't get over his „nature“ - he was only able to show her his deep love by little signs and by his absolute loyality to her and their child. He exactly knew, that this was not enough for Luinarys – especially not after so many weeks of loneliness at Grail Hall, but he had to carry out his duty for their king – privacy must wait.
I should try to explain it to her again ... I don't want any new discussions, which trouble our gathering here ... he thought and glanced at his wife, who was chatting with Lancehot. Just now, they nattered about tomorrow's swordfight and who would fight against who.
Although Luinarys talked politely with Arthurian's best friend, she watched her husband from the corner of her eye.
He looks worried and sorrowful ... for which „danger“ does he try to protect me? Why is it impossible to have some moments with him in private ? she asked herself despairingly, while asking Lancehot about possible wedding rumors of Prince Orlandolas.
I badly missed Arthurian – and even here in public, I cannot deny, that I am caught by his mysterious attraction. Luinarys gazed at her husband and admired his incredible green eyes and his black, curly hair.
If he'd only lose his sorrowful view ... she begged inwardly. ... even the king enjoys this feast – and if there are problems in the kingdom, Erictor should be worried about them first.
Thinking of the king distracted her from her dispiritedness, and she looked around the hall – finally, she could see her friend Anna and her mother, Lady Sonadora, who sat together at the table of some southern noblemen. She was relieved even to know that one of her missed friends eventually attended the feast.
Luinarys turned back to the knights and tried to give Tina a positive sign to let her know, that Anna attended the feast.
Some servants came to the knightly table to remove dirty dishes and plates - and to refill the goblets and wine jugs with fresh red wine.
Suddenly, the Duke of Kingsgrave left his seat at the ducal table and toasted to his nephew, the king, and started his (expected, but boring, because he always said the same prases) speech in honor of the following tournament.
Luinarys took advantage of the situation and changed glances with Tina to get to know about her feelings and thoughts. Then, she bent over the table and whispered: Tina, we must talk soon, dear!

Re: The Lady's Round Table
Eat!
Tristanir voice interrupted her thoughts. He put down a plate with meat in front of her and gave her white bread. She looked down disgusted by the sight of the whole meat he gave her. Tina took the plate and pushed it away.
Please, I can’t eat it.
Tristanir glanced at her. Tina’s face was white, beads of sweat on her forehead and she looked horrified at the plate with nearly uncooked meat. The blood ran out of it and left a small puddle on the bottom. She closed her eyes, breathing deeply to get back her self-control.
Take it away.
Give it over. One more serving I can really do with more.
To underscore his offer Bors belched loudly. The knights laughed. Bors and food, he would hear even the most quiet whisper relating to that.
Tina nibbles on a piece of white bread, smiled at Bors who was kicked by Vanora, which let to even louder laughter. The knights enjoyed the evening without sorrows just having a good time.
You’re all right?
A hand was laid on her forehead.
Yes dear, just felt so sick because of this bloody meat. Don’t know perhaps I ate something wrong for lunch?
Thoughtfully she stroked her husband’s hand.
Don’t worry.
A little smile and Tristanir turned to his other side again to continue his talk with Dagonet.
Neither Arthurian or Lancehot noticed what happened in between. Both were still busy with talking.
Did I think all knights enjoyed the feast? I’ve never seen Arthurian enjoying anything. Perhaps any amusement behind looked bedroom doors but more?
Unfortunately both men sat too far away from her to hear anything they talked about. But it seemed to be serious. Lancehot looked to worried and Arthurian’s forehead had more crinkles than ever – if possible.
Perhaps it’s up to Julie’s absence? What a pity they sit too far away. It seems Luinarys is all ears?! She needs to be taught to overhear others more inconspicuously. I doubt she hears something. Such a noise you nearly can’t understand your own word.
Tristanir turned around
You’re sure everything’s all right?
Of course. Why not?
You sighed. I thought everything’s over.
At least there’s a little colour back. Her checks are reddened that’s good.
I didn’t sigh it must have been anybody else.
Tina blushed, damn thoughts. Again Tristanir turned to Dagonet and Tina sat there a little lost. Her friends too far away to talk, not even shouting was possible, what a boring evening.
Suddenly Dagonet stood up and left the hall. Tristanir looked after him and shook his head.
I don’t think he’ll be happy with these intentions. He murmured.
What’s up? Tina asked him with bended brows.
Nothing dear, enjoy the evening. Isn’t it nice with all your friends? Tristanir patted her hand.
You’re a bad liar. Do you really think I’m stupid.
Me? Never!
Sure! Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining! She looked angrily at him.
You forget your speech!! His eyes glinted furiously.
Who cares? First you left me alone, then you act like a jealous maniac to sit here with me, ignoring me again. I enjoy this evening so much! She spat the last sentence.
Before Tristanir could retort their discussion came to an end. Galahad dashed into the hall. Everybody could see how uncomfortable he felt and the red head said more than thousand words. Somehow he also looked relieved and happy. To overact his uncomfortableness he took a seat and toasted the King. Arthurian followed.
quote: For a honourable tournament ... for our beloved king ... and for the grace of God!
Another belch from Bors completed the toast.
quote: Well said, Arthurian!
Poor Vanora. Tina grinned inwardly. I don’t want to swap places with her. She is at a complete loss because of him and that happens too often.
She looked up and saw Arthurian talking with Luinarys. His answer didn’t seem to be a nice one as Luinarys dropped her eyes. Her checks were red and Tina knew her good enough to note that she was mad at him.
I neither envy her nor him. It must be hard to suit everybody and to have the responsibility for a wife and child while you have to pay attention at such a huge country. And she has to bear it when he comes into their chamber silent and lost in thoughts. Like a ghost. It must be worse for her.
Tina watched Luinarys and felt sympathy for her and the sudden feeling to hug her.
Meanwhile everybody had enough food and all people were busy with eating. It was not that noisy and so she could hear what Lancehot said to Luinarys.
quote: My lady, everything is best, I promise.
Tina didn’t want to believe that. It seemed more like a try to encourage her friend than to be truth.
Again Arthurian was lost in thoughts. He neither noticed his wife’s sorrows nor his friend’s effort to cheer her up even if he kept an eye on Lancehot.
One penny for his thoughts. Tina said at the thought of Arthurian.
Sorry?! Even if Tristanir sat next to her he barely talked to his wife. Above all after that discussion. Beside he didn’t really know what to say. Private talks belonged in their rooms and what to tell her instead. She was a woman the things he talked about with his friends was none of her business.
I’d love to know what busies Arthurian’s mind!
He stared at her. It seemed she has touched a sore spot.
That’s none of your business. Take your nice head to think about your clothes and stuff you need in your spare time. That’s men business and nothing for women.
Tina was shocked.
Of course your wish is my command. She said ironic smiling but her eyes spoke another language.
Tina didn't noticed Luinarys signs because of Annas arrival. She was angry, hurt and disappointed and backed out of the events for a while. Intensely she looked in the other direction, ignoring Tristanir and so she couldn't see Luinarys.
Then she glancend at Luinarys again her friend didn’t note that - was talking to Lancehot but also watching her husband thoughtfully.
After a while she bend over.
quote: Tina, we must talk soon, dear!
Tina nodded.
Sure! But… She pointed at the mess and all the people around. It would be hard to escape to talk.
Two men came closer to their table. The King followed by McKinnon came over and stopped next to Arthurian. The people around the table rose again.
My friends please take a seat! I hope you enjoy the feast. Erictor smiled at his guests. I hope you too My Lady. He bent over to give Luinarys a kiss on her hand.
I came over to introduce a good old friend of mine, and I’ve heard from Lady Tina as well. He blinked at her. McKinnon he tapped Ewan on the shoulder. These are my loyal knights. Arthurian’s the one and only I can’t do without. Nobody can have a better Steward. I’m glad God sent him. Next to him his wife and mother of his daughter. The beautiful Lady Luinarys…. Erictor went on introducing the people on this table.
Well, I do have a problem. In a while we start to dance and McKinnon doesn’t have anybody who’d do him the honour. Of course there are a lot of young Ladies around those would love to dance with him but he was quite shocked imagining them running after him. Erictor stopped to laugh. Well how to resent him and of course them? So I thought of Lady Tina. She knows him and perhaps our shy friend would feel more comfortable being with someone he knows. I think it’s a good idea above all as Tristanir’s known to be one of the best Knights a King can have but the most villainous dancer a woman can hope for. He looked at the couple and smiled a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Tristanir’s face was reserved than ever. Tina didn’t know what to say. Her face expressed happiness, fright, worries, joy, and doubts in quick successive order.
So what to you say Lady Tina? Tristanir?
Tina sat there saying nothing.
It doesn’t matter to which decision I’d come, either I’d offend the King or my husband. To offend the King also offends the Knights. Oh my God why McKinnon after the scene Tristanir made a short while ago.
My Lord it would be…
Tristanir cut her short.
Of course it won’t be a problem my Lord. My wife is honoured to dance with your personal guest tonight. And I’m honoured you’ve chosen my spouse. He bowed.
I knew I could rely on you. Erictor smiled. Hope you all enjoy this feast. Eat and drink as much as you can do. Before Bors could answer in his typical manner Erictor turned and left unknowing what a simple question could do.

The next hours - part I
quote: Tina nodded.
Sure! But…
She pointed at the mess and all the people around.
We will find a way, dear, please! Luinarys begged despairingly. This feast was a horrible event actually and Luinarys felt uncomfortable with every single minute passed.
Try to keep your countenance, Lui! She whispered to herself. Everything would go even worser if she forgot herself. Honestly, she wanted to cry, because she felt so alone and helpless. Her husband thought about a problem, he didn’t want to tell her, Lancehot obviously worried about Julie and Tina, her only friend in this hall, sat too far away.
I need a rest! The journey was too exhausting .. and this feast takes all my energy .. Helen was right of trying to force me to stay in our rooms...
She sighed inwardly when she thought of her strict, but caring handmaiden. She knew about the stress I would have when attending the ball – but she knew nothing about my sorrows about Arthurian’s behavior!
Luinays glanced at her lord husband, who was taking a sip of red wine; it seemed that he didn’t notice his wife’s glance – the menacing problems of the kingdom worried him gravely.
But suddenly, the king came over to the knightly table, followed by a young man: Ewan McKinnon.
quote: I hope you enjoy the feast. Erictor smiled at his guests. I hope you too My Lady. He bent over to give Luinarys a kiss on her hand.
Luinarys felt a very warm feeling inside her and her heart started to beat heavily. When Erictor’s lips touched the back of her hand, she blushed and curtsied.
You honor me, your majesty - of course I do! she aspirated and averted her eyes.
Though she felt this „happy“ feeling again, it wasn’t so strong than before, when the king greeted them previously. This time, she couldn’t forget her husband next to her and the duties, she had as Lady of Grail Hall and as a member of one of the most noble houses of the kingdom.
Stop dreaming, Luinarys! Luinays chastised herself, Think of Arthurian – and all the other guests, who are gazing at you!
While Erictor introduced McKinnon, Luinarys changed glances with Tina and frowned. Tina never mentioned, that she knew Ewan better than any other noble man in the kingdom. He belonged to a noble family, who lived on the far northern borders of the Banaty Kingdom, even north of the North Wall. Luinarys’ father, Lord Henryk Castell used to call them the „northern protectors on the rock“, because their castle was seated on a huge rock on shore, and some hundred years ago, there has been existed a powerful alliance between the noble families of the North under leadership of a mighty ‚Duke of the North’ (who had had his seat at Grail Hall); the McKinnons had been the councellors of that ruler and therefore a huge influence of all things to happen in the northern lands – but that belonged to a time long ago, and Luinarys was very surprised to see a member of the McKinnon Clan such far south. She had to admit that Ewan was a very handsome man with dark curly hair and a gorgeous face – suddenly, she remembered talkings of her elder brother Rikkard, who had known Ewan better, because he had met him when he had been a squire in service of Lord Sanderstone, with whom he had travelled throughout the country; he told her about the legends of the „northern clan on the rock“ and their untaken fortress. They must be brave, proud, but lonely people to live on the northern coast and to ‚protect’ the kingdom from northern intruders, wondered Luinarys and eyed Ewan.
We shall have closer contacts with the McKinnons. Luinarys thought thoughtfully. That could be an advantage for Grail Hall, in case of troubles with the Dukes of Kingsgrave and other southern families – a close alliance with another ancient and strong family of the North. I should talk with Arthurian about that subject soon. It could emerge to be important for his knights, too ...
Meanwhile the king had introduced all persons, assembled at the knightly table and continued ...
quote: Well, I do have a problem.
Interesting! This thought was readable on nearly each face of the people gathering around the table, and Vanora gave a surprised sigh, while her husband chuckled Go on, Tristanir, cuckold., but noone seemed to listen to him, everybody eyed Lady Tina, then of course her husband and at least Ewan McKinnon. The whole athmosphere was tensed and Luinarys felt uncomfortable for her friend.
What an embarrassing situation for her! Poor Tina! The whole court is watching her ... and it seems, as if Tristanir doesn’t like the idea of a dance of his wife with another man, though his face doesn’t show any feelings.
But where does Tina know McKinnon? He’s much older as she is. And I didn’t know, that he travelled to Nymeria ... Luinarys wondered while observing the situation.
Even other noble guests from farer tables came closer to listen to the conversation at the Steward’s table. And Lord Joaquin of Kingsgrave, Master of Laws, left his seat at the ducal table to stroll over to the knights and the king, not to miss anything.

The next hours - part II
Finally, Tristanir agreed to let his wife dance with McKinnon and Erictor left the knights, satisfied with the result; Joaquin accompagnied his kinsman back to the ducal table, talking flutteringly at him, while his younger cousin Keanu Riverwinds greeted Arthurian and Lancehot courtesly and then turned to Luinarys to gave her a bow and a kiss on the hand.
You look more beautiful than ever before, my lady. The color of your gown fits perfectly to your gorgeous eyes .. He looked directly in her eyes as if noonelse could listen to his compliments.
Luinarys blushed and averted her eyes ashamed. It was difficult to stay calmly, when every other nobleman could hear Keanu’s words. Count Keanu was indeed audacious to court the Steward’s wife so obviously in public, but Arthurian wasn’t listening to Keanu’s chatting – he was instead busy with talking to Ewan, with whom he started to discuss some political items about royal business, and Lancehot, Arthurians confidant and friend, joined their conversation quickly.
Galahad took advantage of the situation and left the knightly table. Slowly, he walked along the stoney wall towards the table, where Lady Anna and her mother had taken their seats.
Bors didn’t pay attention to any nobleman in the hall, but turned back to his chicken wings on the plate and swallowed a deep sip off his goblet. His wife Vanora gave him a fond nudge and whispered some words into his ear, which made him laugh.
Only Gawain kept an eye on the situation, especially on the talking of Count Keanu and Lady Luinarys.
You are very mindful to notice the color of my dress and my eyes, mylord. Luinarys replied courtesly. Of course he does! she thought angrily. He met me already in the royal garden where he had the possibility to observe me closely without any interruptions.
Keanu answered with a smile. It was obvious for him, that Luinarys felt uncomfortable to talk to him here, in the royal hall, in front of all noble eyes, next to her sworn husband. He could barely suppress a snort.
Well, well, my dear Luinarys. There are times ahead, when you will beg me on your knees to be mindful and kind to you and your bastard girl! When you will plead for a place in my bed.
His eyes were glittering when he thought of the glorious future of his house – and of course of the ‚price’, he would gain when Arthurian and his knights were destroyed for all times. But this time was still far away (though he got some new information about the plans, his cousin Joaquin had made), and he came back to present time and managed himself to stay polite and gallant to the wife of his most hated „enemy“.
Lady Excalibow, I’d like to ask you, if you will give my mother and my aunt, Duchess Karla of Kingsgrave, the honor to attend their ducal „lady’s breakfeast“ party tomorrow morning. Both would be delighted to have the lady wife of the royal steward with them; some other noble ladies will also attend that party, of course. He asked Luinarys in a genial tone. Sometimes it was even hard for him to imagine all the pain, which awaited her in the future – and he felt sorry for her. But no, there was no need for pity. She had done a grave mistake in the past and had to pay for it NOW.
Luinarys’ first reaction was to neglect that invitiation, but she couldn’t, as she knew exactly the expected reply from a person of her rank. And of course, it was important for Arthurian to know his wife got along well with the other noble ladies of the royal court. Besides, she knew most of the women, who will attend the traditional ‚lady’s breakfeast party’, which was hold by Duchess Karla each time, the whole noble society was assembled at the royal court. There was no possibility left to escape that duty.
Luinarys gathered herself. Well, mylord, she gave her most beautiful smile to Keanu, I am very honored to be invited to the traditional ‚lady’s breakfeast’ of your amicable aunt, Duchess Kingsgrave. And of course, I will attend that party ... but, she came a step closer to him, would it be possible that a good friend accompanies me? I think, it would be an unforgivable fault if this lady stays unnoticed by the high society, mylord. Luinarys knew exactly, that Tina will hate her for this ‚inviation’, but the following morning would be hell without her!
Count Keanu’s face stayed unreadable when he bowed to Luinarys.
As you wish, mylady. I’m sure, my lady aunt will feel happy to get to know one of your close friends and ...
Luinarys?! Keanu was interrupted by a deep, male voice.
Luinarys turned around, slightly surprised, because she recognized that voice at once. She hasn’t met that man for a long time, and she wasn’t even sure to get the possibility to talk to him this evening.
Uncle Godfrey! Thank Godness to meet you here. She was all smiles and felt really happy for the first time this night.
Her godfather, Lord Godfrey Norther, one of the military leaders of the royal army, gave her a short hug and a kiss on the forhead. Then, he nodded at Count Keanu.
Mylord, if you will excuse me and Lady Excalibow for a second?! he said determinedly and led his godchild to a stoney pillar next to the knightly table.
Luinarys, he said with a serious voice, I need to know everything about your father’s accident. What has happened to him and what did the medico say about his condition? His grey eyes narrowed sorrowfully and he frowned.

The next hours - part III
Luinarys swallowed hardly. She has tried to leave the sorrows and worries about her father and his horse accident behind her, at Chassalla, and to concentrate completely on her husband and the tournament at the royal court. But she could understand the fear of her godfather, an old friend of Lord Henryk.
There has been a hunt, about twenty-five days ago, uncle. And you know father, don’t you? Although the medico warned him of the wheather and his bad leg, father didn’t listen to him – even Miriamel was helpless in convincing him to stay at home. She discussed this matter several times with her sister when she visited Chassalla on her way south. Miriamal was desperate and felt guilty, because she couldn’t prevent the hunting and her father to take part of it. Father went on hunting .. and on the second day, he fell off Black Iron and broke his leg. But unfortunately, that wasn’t the worse result of the fall – the medico feared inner bleadings ... and he was absolutely right, though only Luinarys and her sister knew the whole truth.
And? Lord Godfrey asked sternly. He also knew Lord Henryk very well, especially the stubbornness of his old friend. When will he be recovered, Luinarys? He eyed his godchild as if he already knew her answer.
Luinarys sighed, her eyes filled with tears. I am sorry, uncle. But the medico said ...
She couldn’t go on talking, all her mourning came back – and with it, all painful memories of her last visit at Chassalla. Suddenly she remembered the coldness, which greeted her at her formal ‚home’ – and how she felt strange at a place, where she spent the years of her childhood - gone had been all memories of happy, delighted days with her elder brother and the young babygirl Miriamel, now the lady of the household. Her father hadn’t changed a bit – old, mourning and dry did he lay in his huge bed in the dark bedroom, looking resignedly at his elder daughter, who hadn’t obeyed and had married another man than her father had proposed to her. And Luinarys knew exactly, that her father would never forgive her this ‚disobedience’, though Arthurian had become one of the most imporant man of the kingdom and one of the closest friends to the king.
Her sister tried to calm her down, when Luinarys felt badly about her behaviour and the whole ‚quarrel’ with her father. Once, the sisters had a close relationship with each other; Luinarys had been like a mother for Miriamel after the death of Lady Ruthia, which had been shortly before Rikkard’s killing in the Great War. But after her marriage, the relation cooled off and there had only been a few visits and letters between Grail Hall and Chassalla during the past two years. No doubt, Miriamel admired her little niece, and Luinarys knew Briseis in good hands, when she left her with her sister, but when Arthurian was angry with her, that Briseis still stayed in the North, doubts started to gnaw on her conscience.
Can I trust Miriamel? Does she care for Briseis with all her heart? Is she able to protect my child against anybody?
There was no question, her sister had changed during the past 2 years, since she lived alone with Lord Henryk at Chassalla. Luinarys had tried to help her with the huge household, but there had been a hell of work at Grail Hall, too, therefore she could spare only less time to give Miriamel some advices. It had been too little help, Luinarys knew this intuitively – and the attitude and ‚love’ of her sister had changed; it was not obviously, oh no, there had only been tiny hints of mistrust and coldness during her last few stays – but it made Luinarys feel unwelcome and sick. Something went totally wrong at Chassalla – and it was not the illness of her old father or the early death of Rikkard. Rumors and secret letters ... and Miriamel hadn’t want to talk with her about her dear friend lady Joanna of Kingsgrave and whose younger brother Jorah (who, by the way, intended to talk to Luinarys in private, too, during the tournament).
For heaven’s sake, Luinarys, you become paranoid! Stop being so mistrustful ... She argued with herself and bit her lips.
Excuse me? Suddenly, her husband Arthurian appeared next to her and looked surprised at Luinarys’ sorrowful face. Is everything alright, love? He gently touched her right arm.
Luinarys changed glances with her godfather, who slightly shaked his head.
Yes, everything is fine, Arthurian. We just talked about ...
I am very sorry to abduct your lady wife, Arthurian; that is an odd behavior of an old godfather, you know?! Godfrey interrupted Luinarys and started laughing deeply, although his eyes stayed worried and cold.
But as luck would have it, we get the chance of meeting each other here at the feast. Lord Norther continued and faced Luinarys’ husband. There are some serious things, we should talk about. And his kind voice and calm behavior were totally vanished– Godfrey was all the military leader of the king again.
Very well, Godfrey. Arthurian agreed and nodded at his wife. I’ll be right back again, love ... in some minutes. He gave her a soft kiss on the right cheek and left the hall together with Lord Norther.
Luinarys stood there for some minutes in silence, just to ‚understand’, what had happened during the past half hour, when she finally noticed Dagonet, who had come back to the knightly table. Quickly, she turned back to the table.
Dagonet, I am sorry for bothering you, but could you please tell me, why my husband sent you away from the feast? Luinarys tried to look calm and innocent, although she was very anxious; she has never talked to Dagonet alone – and he belonged to a kind of man, who normally scared Luinarys.

The next hours - part IV
Dagonet frowned and changed glances with Gawain, who has remained silent, while Luinarys talked to Dagonet.
That is not of your concern, m’lady. He replied shortly and then, he took a very deep gulp of redwine. Afterwards, he wiped his mouth with his left sleeve.
It is nothing seriously, Lady Excalibow! Gawain hastened to add and smiled excusatorily at Luinarys.
Luinarys felt sick. Dagonet’s answer was very rude, it was nearly outrageous to give this reply to a court lady – and in particular to the wife of his commander.
Thank you. She said coolish and turned abruptly away from the two men, so she couldn’t see that Gawain gave Dagonet a strong poke.
That was very impolite of you, Dag! he admonished Dagonet in Sarmatian tongue. Guess, she was only worried about your absence, mate!
Broads! Dagonet replied despisingly. I only serve her and her husband. And I will risk my life for her child, when I ride north tomorrow.
But despite of the danger, which was hidden in his words, Dagonet’s eyes were glooming. He obviously loved to get this dangerous task of saving Briseis and bring her back to the Banaty Mountains. The mission was after his fancy – riding alone along the country, swordfights with outlaws or looters in the woods and perhaps a nice maiden in a dirty tavern – not only Galahad can have always luck with women, ey?!
Luinarys meanwhile went hastily away from the knightly table and into the hall.
What have I done wrong? She wondered despairingly. It was a polite question, not an interrogation at all! She shook her head, but suddenly reminded herself of her hairstyle and stopped doing it.
I wonder, where Tina is!? She asked herself and looked around, but couldn’t see her friend. Are there any problems with Tristanir?
She passed some other tables with noblemen from the southern parts of the kingdom, who greeted her friendly (though no lady Julie after all!). But her aim was the table of her beloved uncle Hartmur and his family, and she could even see her cousin Domras and his lady wife Selya when a soft voice caught her attention.
Luinarys! Dear friend!
The voice belonged to lady Andromakhe of Marbrandt, the younger sister of Duchess Daenery, who came across the dance floor to greet Luinarys. Andromakhe was a beautiful young woman with long, curly red hair and deep, green eyes. Her hair was pinned up in a complicated hairstyle, decorated with a gorgeous diadem; she was dressed in a long, silver gown of silk with an embroidered trail and from her ears hung precious silver earrings.
The two ladies gave each other a little kiss on each cheek and grasped their hands.
It is so nice to meet you again, dear Lui. Andromakhe said in her soft voice and looked dreamily at Luinarys. It seemed like ages, that we met for the last time, doesn’t it?
Luinarys eyed her friend closely. Andromakhe looked thinner and more pale than ever before, and there were small, dark circles around her eyes visible, though her eyes themselves were gleaming with joy.
Andromakhe is indeed in the prime of life. Luinarys realized delightedly. I am absolutely sure, Duchess Daenerys had already made some wedding plans for her younger sister ...
Normally, Luinarys was a big friend of courtly gossip and all the wedding rumors, but she wasn’t actually interested in the plans of house Marbrandt, particularly when they also concerned the royal family.
So she only said You are absolutely right, dear Andro, it has been already more than one year, that we met at Sanderstone Castle. And she tried to get a glimpse of her uncle Hartmur, who sat at his table, laughing and chatting with Lord Hamleth Redwood.
Well, you have been with child then. Andromakhe added in a lower voice and looked down at Luinarys. Your daughter must be nearly one year old, right? Well, I am absolutely convinced, that she is already a cute small lady ... She chuckled. ... when will she get a sibling, dear? and Andromakhe gazed curiously at her friend.
Luinarys was shocked by Andromakhe’s curiosity. Funnily enough, she had asked herself the very same question some weeks ago, when she had received a letter from Arthurian, in which he had written about the political situation in the kingdom and his future plans for Grail Hall.
Is there need of an heir for Grail Hall so quickly? Luinarys asked herself anxiously. Taking care of Briseis is exhausting enough for me at the moment, not to forget all the work with the huge household and the tenants and peasants. If I am pregnant again, everything would go much slowier than now ...
She sighed inwardly, thinking of all the duties and responsibilities she had as landlady of Grail Hall.
Andromakhe seemed to understand the inner conflict of her friend and she gently touched Luinarys’ arm.
Well, my dear, forgive my nosiness. I am not entitled to ask you this very private question ... and she smiled excusatorily, ... your lord husband has already made his plans, right? She winked at Luinarys. He seemed to be very busy at the moment, I suppose. But well, that is not a surprise, isn’t it? Everyone here is very exhausted and busy for weeks ... Andromakhe sighed regretfully, but then kept on smiling. ... could be caused by the wedding, couldn’t it? She asked thoughtfully.
Luinarys gasped for breath. A wedding? Here? At the royal court? Who? Was this the ‚ominious’ announcent, Catelyn had talked of in my chamber? She turned pale and swallowed gravely.
But if this wedding takes place at court, it could only be the marriage of two powerful, noble people ... maybe Erictor ...?!
Well, ehm ... I don’t know for sure, dear ... Luinarys stammered and tried to find the right words.
But Andromakhe didn’t notice Luinarys’ confusion and went on chatting.
