Guardian Angel Part 1 - Adrien Brody
Actor: Adrien Brody, known as Wladyslaw Szpilman at The Pianist OR Jack Driscoll from King Kong by Peter Jackson
Genre: Romance / maybe a bit Comedy?
Autors comment:
This is a bit girlish, but I hope you'll like it anyway. And... sorry if my English is not good enough (can't rate it by myself )
Describtion :
Sometimes life is hell and there’s only your best friend to stand by your side. And sometimes life is heaven on earth... and you’re an angel. (All rights reserved ) / “Angel” Lyrics by Jimi Hendricks.
********************************************
With a quiet „click“ my clock radio started running and Bon Jovi were singing „Bed of roses“. Ah no! With a mutter I welcomed a new day. It was 6 a.m. and I could hear my neighbour taking a shower. 15 minutes left before I had to leave my cosy, warm bed. I stretched my arms, legs and my back. And there it was. This certainty that I had tried to suppress. I was lonely again. Sinlge. Ryan had broke off yesterday after telling me he was in love with Lorna, a skinny girl from his office. “I wanna lay you down in a bed of roses” Bon Jovi sang and I thought: “Yes, so did Ryan. But Ryan forgot to take the pins away.”
I took a deep breath. “Amy,” I told myself: “Every single man’s an idiot. You don’t need them. Be glad you got rid of this pompous ass.” But even if I wanted to believe it, it couldn’t stop the pain inside my heart.
One hour later I was on my way to work. Deep in thoughts I was standing at red pedestrian lights. While wainting for green lights I took a look around. A young man came along. He was staring at a newspaper he was holding in his hands. Not realising that the pedestrian lights were still red, he made a step down from the sidewalk.
Out of reflex I grabed his jacket and pulled him back. The van missed him for inches only. He yelled and started trembling immediately when he had realised what had happend.
He turned around, looked at me and all he could say was “Oh ****!”.
“Well, a “Thank you” would have been okay, too.” I said moody.
“Oooh, sorry!” he stuttered. “Ahm... wow! You saved my life!”
“Whatsoever.” I sized him up while saying that. He was very tall, green-eyed with a narrow, crooked nose. He wore camouflage trousers and a wide black jacket. A green baseball cap, covering his brown hair, finished his casual style.
“Wow, that was close! I’d probably be dead! You really saved my life!” He repeated.
Normally I would have given him a smile and would have told him to take care before leaving him.
But today I hated myself, the whole world and especially every male creature.
“It wasn’t my intention.” I snapped at him. “And now get out of my way, I’m late for work.”
I left him behind and felt a confused look at my back.
As I crossed the street he screamed “Hey! What’s your name?!” afterwards me.
I theatrically threw my hands up and screamed back at him: “Call me guardian angel!”
After some steps I regret my beasty answer. It wasn’t his fault, that Ryan had broke off.
But my concience had not enough time to compleatly break through: my cell rang. I answered immediately as I saw Melanie’s name on the display.
“Hey, Mel.”
“Amy! How are you?” Mels chirpy voice sounded as happy as usual.
“Let me think... my boyfriend broke off yesterday, I decided to hate everyone with facial hair or a smaller size than mine and I unintentionally saved a young mans life. Hm, I think it couldn’t be better!”
“Amy, stop kidding! What does it mean: saved a mans live?”
“I’m not kidding at all. Listen Mel, I’m in a hurry. Can I tell you later?” I asked. I’d finally reached my companys building.
“Hey, what about a relaxed evening in front of the TV with a family size pizza and a bottle of wine?” she suggested.
“Sounds great! CU then!” I hung up. I loved her (although she had a smaller size than me). She’s been my best friend since third grade and I sometimes had the feeling, that she knew more about me than I did myself.
Melanie King, 24, histroy of arts student, curly red hair, warm brown eyes, kind, childlike, chaotic, crazy and the best friend of the world. Now she sat on her gaudy pink couch, a slice of pizza in one hand and a glass of wine in the other one. She stared at me. “You didn’t do that!” She shrieked.
“I did.”
“You saved that guys ****ing life??” she repeated.
I rolled my eyes. “Mel, I don’t think that HE thinks he has a ****ing life.”
“Amy you know what I mean! I don’t believe it! My best friend’s a hero!” She screamed excited, almost spilling out her wine.
“I’m no hero! I didn’t want to do that! It was a reflex!” I raised my voice. “Come on, don’t make a big deal about that!”
“No big deal? Amy! Don’t be modest!”
“I’m not modest! It’s... I don’t know...”
“Ah, whatsoever! You haven’t told me yet what he looks like! Is he handsome?” She wagged excited with the upper part of her body.
“I can’t remeber. It happend so fast.” I lied. I knew exactly what he looked like. To be honest I couldn’t get his scared look out of my head.
Mel made a sad face. “What a pitty. But hey, tell me all about you and Ryan. Come on!”
My expression darkend and I slowly told her everything.
“Oh Amy, believe me. You can really be glad that he had left you,” she said after I had finished my sad story.
I felt tears burning in my eyes. “Mel, I’ll never wake up next to him and watch him sleep. I’ll never see his smile again without feeling a deep pain. He will never share his bread rolls with me and give me the upper part of it although it’s his favorite part! He’ll never leave the first bite of his Snickers to me.”
I started to cry. “And I will never stroke his hair while watching TV again. And I’ll never hide little love notes in his pockets nomore.”
Mel gave me a handkerchief (One of this soak-through secures she kept together with chocolate in a drawer beneeth her couch in case of lovesickness emergencies or romantic movies.).
“Listen Amy, I’m sure there will be someone new. And I think it won’t take too long.”
I threw a bad look at her. She tried to hide a grin.
“Okay Amy, I think it’s better to stop giving advices. You got that “You-can-tell-me-what-you-want,-even-if-it’s-true-I-DON’T-WANT-to-belive-it”-crinkle carved into your forehead.”
She giggled and I felt a grin raise from deep inside of me.
“Mel, if you set me laughing now, I’ll hate you forever!” I said, trying to hide a smile.
Melanie couldn’t pull herself together. She laughed out loudly and so did I.
“That’s not fair,” I said gasping for breath. “I want to grieve for my broken love and you’re making me laugh!”
Mel beamed. “Amy, you know me! Live is to short to be sad all the time. And you can bear unchangable things better with a smile at your face. YOU told me that, Amy. And that’s one reason why you are my best friend! Do you know the other reasons?” Mel asked.
“I don’t have a bloody clue.” I answered with a tired voice.
She giggled again. “You are straight out, you’re strong, kind, loyal...”
“Mel! Stop it!” I blushed and took a big bite off my pizza.
“No, I think you need a little knock for your self-convidence, sweety. I’ve just numerated your traits.”
“Well,” I mumbled. “I’m glad you noticed my traits, cause I didn’t.”
At the next morning there was no aggression left. I only felt a deep sadness. I had to force myself to get up. After an extra dose of black coffee I thought I’d be strong enough to face a new day.
I saw that it was raining as I looked out of my window. A green leaf had been washed into the gutter and it swam down to the drain where it finaly vanished. Vanished in front of my eyes, just like Ryan. On my way to work I fixed my eyes on the ground. I ran, always looking for a puddle. As I turned around a corner I crashed straight into a tall body. I heard something like “Ugh” above my head and as I looked up I recognized this green eyes.
“Oh, it’s you.” I mumbled.
“Yeah, it’s me,” he answered rubbing his chest.
“Listen, I want to say sorry,” I began after an embarrassing silence. “It was... ahm... really impolite how I treated you yesterday. I didn’t wanted to say these things. It just came out. I had a bad day.”
“No problem.” Now he really smiled. Good heavens! What a smile. “Hey, may you wanna go out with me? I mean, you saved my life and I want to say thank you somehow.”
I risked a straight look at him. His smile was sloping and there were cheerful crinkles around his eyes. He wore this baseball cap again. Today raindrops were falling down of its brim.
I blushed. “No, sorry. I can’t do that.” I didn’t feel ready for a date yet (was it a real date?).
His smile disappeared. “And would you tell me your name at least? Mine is Adrien.” He said.
I shook my head. “Bad idea,” I whispered and left him standing in the rain.
Today I ran from my office without reaching my daily work quota. My thoughts were roaming back to Adriens smile again and again.
From now on I saw Adrien almost every day. We said hello and passed by. He never asked me for a date again and I started to regret that I had refused his request. On the other hand I was to timid to ask him for a date. I was afraid he would laugh at me. I couldn’t dare to ask him for a date after saying such wicked things. But the fact that scared me the most was: A morning without a look at his face appeared to be a lousy day.
