Without You (the 2nd Installment)
Chapter 1
It's been two years since she had left Dunder-Mifflin. Nicole had left Scranton, PA a couple of months ago and move back to Kansas City, Missouri. She hadn't really thought about what she wanted to do since she got back.
Maybe I should just go back to business school, she thought. But then again,that would make me think about Aaron more. I don't want to think about him again.
"Well,you need to do something with your life Nicole,"said her mother over and over again. "You can't just sit in this apartment and do nothing for the rest of your life."
She's right. I know I need to get on with my life. But she doesn't understand how hard it is for me right now. I need help...a ton of help... She thought that afternoon as she sat at her little table looking at the paper. I wonder how Jim and Pam are doing. It's been a while since I've talked to them.
The phone then started to ring. "Hello?"asked as she picked up the phone.
"Hi..."

Chapter 2
"Oh my god Jim! You scared me!"
"Sorry! How are you?"
"I'm good Jim. I miss you."
"I miss you too."
"How are things with you and Pam?"
"Well..."he paused.
"Well what?"
"Everyone kind of knows that I had a crush on her."
"Oh." Nicole knew that Jim had more than just a crush on Pam. But didn't want to say anything more.
"Have you found a job yet?"
"No. Not yet. I'm still looking."
"Well,you had better find one soon."
"Yeah I know. That's what my mother keeps saying. It's just so hard to find a job these days."
"Yeah I know."
"I feel like I want to go back up there...but I don't know. I just kind of want to forget what happened you know?"
"Yeah I know."
They both paused for a minute.
"Nicole?"
"Yeah?"
"I need you to come back up here."
"What? Why?"
"Because I need your help. You know that I have more than just a crush on Pam. But I don't know what to do."
"All right. But I don't have a lot of money right now."
"I'll send you the stuff by tomorrow."
"Ok. Thanks."
"No. Thank you. Bye."
"Bye,"and she hung up the phone.

Chapter 3
The next day Nicole got the plane tickets and the hotel reservations from Jim.She put the stuff on the table and just stared at the stuff.
There's no way I can do this,she thought. Why is he making me do this now? He knows what happened to me that night on the cruise. I don't want to relive my past anymore. He knows that...So why does he want me to do this?
She reached for the phone and dialed Jim's number.
"Hello?"he asked.
"Jim I can't do this..."
"What?"
"I can't do this Jim. I can't live in the past anymore...You know that."
"I only need you here for a couple of days. I really...need your help."
She sighed. "Ok. But only if it's for a couple of days."
"I know how badly you don't want to do this Nicole. But I really need your help."
"Does anyone know I'm coming?"
"No."
"Not even Pam?"
"Not even Pam. This is just between us."
"All right fine. I'll do it."
"Ok. I'll see you tomorrow morning then."
"Ok."
"Thanks. Bye."
"Bye."

So that afternoon Nicole packed her bags so she could get ready to go back to Scranton,PA that night.
This is just so stupid. I know I shouldn't be doing this. I really shouldn't be doing this.But this is for Jim and he's my friend...I need to be there for him.
The phone then rang again. She sighed and went over to pick it up.
"Hello?"she asked.
"Just making sure you haven't changed your mind,"said Jim.
"No. I haven't. I'm your friend Jim..."
"Thanks."
"Jim..."
"Yeah?"
She paused. "Nevermind..."
"What?"
"It's nothing."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Sorry. I was just thinking about something."
"Ok. Well,since I don't have any plans,I guess I'll see you tonight."
"Thanks."
"No problem. I'll see you in a couple of hours then."
"All right."
"Bye."
"Bye." She hung up and put down the phone. I can't tell him that I was in love with him,she thought. Not when he's been in love with Pam all this time. I don't want to break his heart.

Chapter 5
About 5 hours later it was time for Nicole to head back to old Scranton,PA. Well,here's go nothing.Just take a deep breath,and everything will be fine.I'm just glad that Aaron doesn't know that I'm coming back.
I know it's stupid that I'm thinking about him again.But Jim sending me back there just really isn't helping me.But I have to help him I guess.
The drive to the airport was about 20 minutes. When she got there,she decided it would be best not to waste any time looking at magazines and gifts,since they would probably be boarding in about 10 minutes.
Maybe I should just tell him out I feel,she thought. No.There's no way in hell I could do that.Jim doesn't need me.He needs Pam...and I know that.Pam would be lucky to have Jim...I just need to stop worrying about this right now. What the hell am I stressing about this over.This isn't about me right now.This is about him.This is about my friend and he needs my help.
The intercom then went on.It was time for people to start boarding the plane.
This is your only chance Nicole. You have to do this now.
She got up from her seat,and boarded the plane with the rest of the passengers.

The plane right from Kansas City to Scranton wasn't that bad. The plane wasn't that full.But the only thing Nicole could think about what would happen after she got off that plane.
You did the right thing Nicole,she told herself. You have to be strong and forget everything that happened to you in the past. You're a woman now.Forget about what happened with you and Aaron and just move on with your life.

About three hours later the plane landed in Scranton,PA. Nicole was happy to see that Jim was waiting for her at the gate. She smiled as she walked to him.
"Hey,"he said.
"Hey yourself."
"Long time no see."
"You got that right."
"Do you need help with your stuff?"
"No I'm good. Thanks though."
"No problem. I'll help you to your car and then I guess I'll help you get to your hotel. Thanks again for coming. I know this is kind of hard for you."
"It's all right. I'm better now."
"Are you sure? Because you didn't sound like that yesterday."
"Yeah I know. But I'm here for you and I need to stop worrying about all that other crap."
"That's good."
"Plus it's nice to see old friends,"she said as she tried to smile as he took her to her car.

Chapter 6
About twenty minutes later the two arrived at the hotel.Nicole got her stuff out of the car and the two walked to her room,which was about three floors up.
"Well,here we are,"said Jim as she unlocked the door.
"Yeah,"they walked inside the room and she put her stuff down on the floor.
"I really want to thank you for coming back."
"It's really no problem."
"Nicole..."he paused.
"Yeah?"
"There's something I need to tell you."
"Yes?"
"I'm thinking about moving to the branch in Stamford."
Nicole was shocked. She couldn't believe that Jim was attemping to leave Scranton. "What? Why?"
"Because there's nothing here for me.Maybe a change would be good for me."
"But what about Pam?"
"She has Roy."
"She has you too."
"But I'm not her fiancé....Look,the problem was that I vented to Toby about Pam having to do all her wedding stuff in the office...I took it all back,but then Michael just had to read the note to everyone at work...and I just... I thought this would be better for me."
"Are you really considering moving?"
"I don't know.I'm still thinking about it."
"Jim..."
"Yes?"
"I have a confession to make."
"You do?"
She nodded. "Yeah. Jim...this is going to be really hard for me,but ever since the day I've met you I've really been in love with you..."
"What?"
"I didn't want to say anything because I know how much you cared about Pam.And I know that...you can't love me back..."
"But you can still be my friend...right?"
"Yeah." She started to sob. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have said that."
He hugged her as she cried.
"I'm so sorry. This is just so hard for me."
"It's all right. Everything's going to be fine."
"I remember the first time you said that me....on the cruise...and then you told me that you dumped Katy."
"Yeah..."
"Hey listen,do you want to come to the Casino Night tomorrow night? Try to at least get the stress out of you."
"I'll think about it."
"Ok."
"I'm sorry Jim..."
"At least you were being honest."
"I just wish you could be to..."
"What?"
"Tell Pam how you feel Jim."
"You know I can't do that Nicole. She's engaged..."
"I know...but sitting around isn't going to do nothing."
"Yeah..."they both went silent. "Well,I had better go. Call me by tomorrow afternoon if you want to join us."
"Ok. Thanks for inviting me."
"Bye,"and he walked out of the room and shut the door.

I can't let him transfer,she thought. It just wouldn't be the same without Jim. I don't want him to hurt Pam. Oh god. This isn't good. I have to do something. Maybe I should go to the casino night tomorrow night. Maybe it will be fun. I really do need to get my mind off Aaron and everything else going on in my life. But then again, Jim never told anyone that I was coming. And I really don't want to tell anyone why I'm here.I'm just going to go to bed and then I'll think about it in the morning.

About ten o'clock the next morning,the phone started to ring.Nicole was just about to take a shower,but then she jolted for the phone.
"Hello?"she asked
"You ok? You sound like you just ran for the phone,"said Jim.
"I did.I was just about to take a shower,but then I heard the phone ring..."
"Oh sorry. I won't keep you."
"It's all right."
"Have you thought about tonight?"
She sighed. "I'm not really sure Jim. I mean,you didn't really tell anyone that I was coming or why for that matter."
"True. I'm really sorry."
"It's ok. Jim..."she went silent.
"Yeah?"
"I really just want to go home..."
He went silent too. "Are you sure...?"he asked after a couple of minutes.
"There's no way I can help you Jim. This is something you're going to have to do on your own. I mean,I know how much you like Pam...but I don't know how I'm going to help you. I'm really sorry."
"No...it's ok."
"Please don't be mad at me."
"I'm not."
"I'm really sorry about last night. I don't know what got into me."
"It's all right. You were being honest. I'll let you go."
"I'll come if I decide to change my mind."
"Ok."
"Bye."
"Bye,"and she hung up the phone.
