The JagerBug - Club Racecar

Ok, I'll leave it to Alex to post a history of the base car....

The theory behind the project can be read on other threads.

This thread is purely to show the progress as it's made and let everyone see the development of what will hopefully be a very cool race car for next season!

the before pics!!!

I know it doesn't look much, but we've all seen the 'before' pics of Alex's 62....

not saying this is going to be in the same league mind you but you can see the standard of work that can be done

I couldn't stay around to help out tonight unfortunately (too busy off recruiting new club members emoticon) so these are the only pics i got

more updates to follow...

watch this space emoticon

Some more pics from tonight - the car is a 72 1200 which I bought in about 2001 from a guy near work - it was ratty but on the road and perfect for my sister in law to use as she had just passed her test - I insured it in return for free babysitting duties emoticon
I also got to drive an old bug again when i wanted too which was pretty cool
She ran it for 2-3 years until another better car came up locally (the WHO 1500 bug) and i sorted that out for her in return for the remains of this car - it had a new (ish) recon 1200 engine which is now in the 62
However it sat in the garden for a couple of years (next to the 62) hence the mullered roof - the tree that hit the 62 also hit this car and damaged it much more
I eventually gave it to paul as he was itching for a project - he planned to roofchop it and make it into a volksrod - fast forward a couple of years, add a small child into the equation & paul has little time so I suggested I had it back & the club got its own racecar
Its going to be a 2-3 inch chopped early style gasser/retro racer - bright orange with jagerbug logos and a 6 point cage
Tonights jobs were as follows

Image

Remove doors and any bolted panels

Image

Some screws more stubborn than others

Strip off front end & other yellow clip

Image

Body mounts undone & body coming loose

Image

Image

Body off - some left on floor !!

Image

Body stored whilst we collect some repair panels

Image

Pan ready to strip and fit new pan halves before repiping brakes and renewing running gear emoticon

Alex, regarding input from other club members, when would you be wanting people to turn up?? Is there a rota?? I take it you don't want people just turning up.... emoticon
Could this be a discussion topic for Sunday evenings soiree?? emoticon
Knowing you it'll be built before we know it emoticon

we can discuss this sunday - weds nights are the plan at the moment, however once its stripped it will be a question of finding repair panels and running gear parts - may hold us up whilst we save up/await donations emoticon

The car looks practically finished already!

That picture of some of the car being left on the floor; you should have seen Rich's lockup floor after we tried to lower the rear suspension! emoticon
