First of the pics from last night -

First Rich and Graeme got to work stripping the underseal on the inner wings so we could find the factory spot welds

Then rich cleaned the remains off back to bare metal

Then Ash set about drilling the spot welds out with a spot drill

Image

Gradually finding them all

Image

Drilling right through them means we can use the holes to plug weld the new panels into place

Meanwhile Nick set about making the templates for the chopped screens from Ply, Paul had already chopped the screens in his computer at work ( scanned original screens then chopped them and outputed them onto paper for us as patterns - First some careful scissor work was required

Then they were spay mounted onto thin ply

Then carefully rough trimmed with the jigsaw (cutting the ply - NOT the workmate !!)

Before sanding carefully up to the final line on the belt sander

Which was a rather dusty job !

Theres a bit to come out of that screen height !!

Should really have been wearing all of this gear earlier !

Back at the front end - bits were coming off - and fast !!

Ash was making short work of the drivers front quarter

And I was getting rid of the lower front bulkhead

Gone !!

Rich cleaned up the upper bulkhead whilst Ash got the last bits of inner wing removed

Then Rich cleaned up the new lower bulkhead, Nick started on the inside of the door pillars & Ash got the last nasty welded mess off

Finally - New lower bulkhead tacked into place ( I KNOW I am not wearing a mask - but I was looking away to tack - Once the initial tacks were in place then I had a mask on ! )

Bulkhead was gradually pulled into place to give a neat fit - once its ground back and skimmed with filler should look like new emoticon

And thats how it ends this week - we are just about ready for front quarters next week, just a bit of tidying to do around the edges prior to tacking them in place

Would like to add - whilst this was taking place, Rich (VRM) was starting to strip ANOTHER gearbox for bits and Graeme then took over from him and completed the job later - no pics of them for some reason ?
