Re: The JagerBug - Club Racecar

ok people, here we go....

today was a big day in the build of the Jagerbug, you'll see what I mean as the photo's are posted emoticon

you'll have to bare with me on the description of some of them as I was missing for the first hour or so as I had to pop to work

right, this one looks like Alex B starting to get to grips with the skuttle panel, seperating it from the dash

Image

there looked to be a hell of a lot of burning going on!

Image

I reckon they were just trying to heat he garage up for me on my return

glowing red

Image

if it was anything like Wednesday night I imagine there were hunderds of spot welds holding it together?

Image

anyway, having built up the front end on Wednesday only to dismantle it all due to the filler filled front skuttle it was time to rebuild it, again

Image

more fettling of the front skuttle

Image

and a lot of chopping out of rusty bits!

Image

no point having a rusty race car, if in doubt, chop it out emoticon

Image

so, having finished work for the morning I called in for some breakfast at mcdonalds, it was very well received by the 'troops'

Image

and unbelievably, Alex's garage wasn't big enough for all of todays jobs so we had a little errection outside

Image

the 'better' skuttle panel tacked into place

Image

and a glimpse of the most important tool in Alex's garage, the mystical magic wand

one quick wave of this and the roof chop will be done emoticon

Image

abbracadabbra

Image

damn, the magic wand didn't work

so it was good old fashioned elbow grease that would have to be used. starting with stripping the roof #1 (we have 3 including the one on the car and a back up skin to use in the chop)

Image

meanwhile, in the garage the rusty area you saw on an earlier photo was cleaned up and prepped

Image

i think i got a bit ahead of myself before, this is a picture of the skuttle about to be tack welded into place (the pics are in order but this is the first time i've seen some of them so excuse the continuity emoticon)

Image

more prepping in places never to be seen by the human eye emoticon

Image

meanwhile outside, i was discovering that roof #1 was a bit wobbly  so a change of plan, we'll use the front of the yellow one and the back of the white one instead

Image

closer look at the skuttle tacking

Image

:incheek: so old i can't sleep

so here's a few more pics...

Image

don't ask me what these are, i was still outside stripping bloody paint off the roof! emoticon

looks like the bottom of the screen surround being welded in

Image

and then a front quarter back on

Image

a few dinges and dents to sort out on roof #1 but nearly there with the paint removal!

Image

looks like a patchwork quilt inside emoticon

Image

but it was all coming together slowly

Image

we do have the occasional break, this one for lunch. kindly cooked up by Nay (mrs Alex B)

yum, curried parsnip soup emoticon

Image

then Rich B gave the yellow roof a damn good sanding with the da

Image

whilst I started stripping roof #2

Image

and now onto the bit I expect people have been waiting to see.....

the roof chop! emoticon

Paul offering up one of the templates made a few weeks ago, masking tape applied so we could mark out where to cut

Image

a big thank you to Andy, our local German, Swedish and French manager for coming down, offering support, bringing chocolates, popcorn and (non-boobie calanders) and getting his hands dirty. well, he would do if Rich could figure out how to switch on the heat gun

Well after Dropping Volksrepairman off at his new job in Leeds this morning, I headed over to Gaz 's(narrowminded) house and picked up the bits for the gearbox he had for us - A superdiff, pair of sway away axles and a billet side cover - plus another spare gearbox

Image

I then came back dowm the M1 - stopping in Sheffield to pick up my latest ebay purchase - the worlds heaviest metal folder !!

Image

My poor T5 was looking like a boat all the way home !! - Got a friend with a Hiab on one of his trucks lifting it off for me in the morning !!
Unbelievably heavy - but solid & made in manchester - NOT china, plus its Victorian so built to last - should make easy work of the fabricated bits I want to make for the racecar & other projects emoticon

Re: The JagerBug - Club Racecar

Well - Paul & I made a bit more progress tonight
Paul started by remeasuring and checking where we had made the first rough cuts into the roof, we then removed the roof and decided we werent happy with the B pillars - so we broke the tack welds and took them off

Image

We then decided that the only way to ensure everything was straight & true was to level the shell up then use the level at each stage to check that everything was square - we also recut the pillars and were much happier with the fit

Image

Pillars were then re-tacked - proir to being fully welded
Image

Once both pillars were tacked we checked levels again

 Image

Before fully welding the pillars and grinding them back

Image

We finished by tacking the roof finally in position - fully happy that all was square and level

Image

More pics tomorrow emoticon

All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others

Thanks for the updates Alex, as the club had not seen "the original" chopathon emoticon

As Nay pointed out on another thread, it's a good job that the non club members who have bought 20 shirts, rather than the club members who have purchased 55 can see it on the Volkszone, facebook, myspace etc! IMHO emoticon

Merry Christmas
