Thanks for the updates Alex, as the club had not seen "the original" chopathon emoticon

As Nay pointed out on another thread, it's a good job that the non club members who have bought 20 shirts, rather than the club members who have purchased 55 can see it on the Volkszone, facebook, myspace etc! IMHO emoticon

Merry Christmas

do I even need to ask which is the more important forum to advertise the project on? without financial backing of some sort the club project will be impossible to complete / sustain, we may have only sold 20 items of Jagerbug clothing to non members so far but shall we sit down at the end of 2008 and see where the majority of purchases came from?

which of the above figures will excite potential sponsors do you think? a build up thread on an internationally busy vw forum like volkszone with literally hundreds of people viewing the thread each and every day or our club forum? don't get me wrong, i love this place / club to death but let's be realistic here for a second!

are we trying to attract potential sponsors / donations from people or just keep club 'members' happy?

I apologise if you or anyone else feels that I am not pulling my weight, i've only spent hundreds of hours updating Jagerbug stuff all over the internet since day one of the project.

Yes, i failed to update this thread on one or two occasions. I'm afraid at midnight when I've just arrived home from working all evening on the car I chose to only update volkszone at the time instead of both. strike me down for wanting to go to bed!

there are no "handbags at dawn", you've just rubbed my back up and got the reaction i'm sure you thought you'd get

Merry Christmas emoticon

Re: The JagerBug - Club Racecar

remember folks, measure twice, cut once emoticon or in this case measure many many times just to make sure!

Image

Alex continues to fettle the front pillar repairs

Image

and again the front end is assembled

Image

this time complete with fuel tank to ensure everything fits just right

Image

yellow roof having the dinges and dents worked out by Alex B whilst Paul B marks off where to cut

Image

some precision markings made on the car

Image

front skuttle in and done

Image

and just to prove it's not complete guess work emoticon

Image

Image

cross your fingers, no turning back now!

Image

Paul getting to grips with his big chopper

Image

both rear corners done

Image

the roof chop continued...

each pillar was cut with care

Image

it was surprisingly quick once all the measuring and checking had been done

Image

look at the concentration on Rich;s face, and he's just watching!

Image

last cut

Image

not a particuarly impressive video but thought we'd capture the moment the roof was lifted off for the first time this way rather than in a sequence of pics

http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r280/pughdog/?action=view¤t=MOV01277.flv

Image

Alex B and Rich S got to work removing the foam from inside the rear quarters

Image

whilst Paul removed the pillars from the old roof

Image

the white roof was completely stripped

Image

next, Rich S got on with cleaning up the top of the door pillars

Image

whilst Paul did yet more cutting!

Image

as you can see, we're using the white roof at the rear, a bit of trimming yet to be done to fit

Image

It was like a Beetle roof sale outside! emoticon

Image

Rich S in place ready to support the roof / posing

Image

time to trim up the rear corners of the white donor roof

Image

it's not as big a chop as this pic looks!

Image

bit of jiggery pokery needed on the door post

Image

measured, checked, measured again then tacked into position

Image

as you can see from this pic, when you remove several inches from the rear of the roof and 'slide' it back the front screen doesn't quite line up!

Rich S is quickly calculating the adjustments needed in his head

Image

hence why you use 2 roofs in the chop, only the rear of this white roof is used

Image

the offside pillar tacked into place

Image

the roof loosely clamped in place, a good idea of how the rear screen will look (notice Rich S is still in the background calculating)

Image

a view from the inside

Image

the top of the pillar fitting against it's 'new' roof

Image

the pillars seemed to line up quite nicely

Image

then it was back onto the other roof, the yellow one, a quick chop of the front screen pillars

Image

then make some room for the front half to be put in

Image

the yellow roof held in place at the front

Image

as the next picture shows, we've left a bit of extra metal in both halves of the roof so we can make adjustments where neccessary

Image

although the roof chop is by no means finished, not a bad days work last Friday emoticon

a lot more to do (including taking the roof back off, removing and replacing the rear quarter panels!)

Bit harsh Nick, remember you have to keep the club memebers happy (and their wives

emoticon ) otherwise who's going to end up building it emoticon emoticon
