Well - Paul & I made a bit of progress last night - Starting off with more measuring and checking - getting ready to do the final cut on the rear roof section
Image

Then Paul trimmed it to a straight edge - rather than the roughly cut wavy one we had before emoticon

Image

we then offered the front section up again and scribed its rear edge against the new edge of the rear roof section

Image

It took a lot of jiggling around and movement to get an idea of exactly how it should sit

Image

Once we were happy with its position we clamped it up and then scribed it again to check we were still in about the right place

Image

Image

More pics in a minute emoticon

Once we were happy with the rear roof edge I used the flanging tool top flange the rear roof ready to allow the front section to sit over it and be plug welded through to minimise distortion

Image

Image

Then the front section was offered up - Yet again! (we must have taken it on and off about 20 times last night !)

Image

Then - before any welding takes place its time to hang the doors - just to confirm all is fitting as it should

Image

Nice new genuine door with its top chopped off !!!

Image

Chopped off top offered up - just to see how it compares to the hole !

Image

Then the cut off door was hung in place - and the gaps checked

Image

Starting to look how it should now emoticon

Image

More tonight emoticon

last nights progress...

there were 3 things going on throughout the night

Graham, GT Rich and I carried on with glassing the widened seats

Image

Image

whilst Alex and Paul continued to measure up, this time to slice into the front pillars to 'widen' them to fit

once the roof was positioned dead centre, this metal piece was welded in to avoid the roof moving whilst the pillars are 'shaped to fit' emoticon

Image

Image

sorry Al, i'll have to mention your brush with danger!

whilst cutting into the front screen surround

Image

Al may have accidently leaned against his welder burning a small hole in the front quarter panel!

Image

now, cutting down on the doughnuts on a wednesday evening to improve your 1/4 mile time is one thing, but cutting off your bits with a welder to gain a 100th of a second may be taking it a bit far!

so, whilst Al was busy with his attempted 'extreme body lightening program' we pressed on with the slightly less dangerous reinforcing of the bucket seats

Image

graham may have got a bit of resin on his finger in this shot, not quite as hardcore as Al emoticon

Image

this is the reason behind the slices into the corner of the window, shame i didn't get a before pic here as the two pillars were nowhere near lined up. with a bit of gentle persuasion and and a g-clamp it started to look a bit squarer

Re: The JagerBug - Club Racecar

once the pillars were lined up they could be welded into place

Image

meanwhile, Ash was busy cleaning up a pair of drums (not sure if I've got a pic of the colour of his face afterwards but he looked like a chimney sweep! :lolemoticon

Image

with the first seat glassed again and drying we started work on the 2nd seat, yes, I know it's a race car and only really needs one but we are going to use it on the road so it would be nice to have somewhere for a passenger to sit!

here's GT Rich screwing the widened seat together (probably putting the screws in the wrong place* :rolleyesemoticon

* only kidding Rich emoticon

Re: The JagerBug - Club Racecar

thats it now, the front of the roof is firmly in place!

Image

and just to prove Alex does wear a mask to weld

Image

even Rich put one on so he could see what welding was all about (i suspect however, he was actually having a sly snooze behind the mask, getting some sleep 'in the bank' in preparation for his new arrival emoticon)
