Further progress last night -

Image

Quarter trimmed further to fit - seems to offer up nicely emoticon

Corner of engine bay was looking a bit sad

Image

New repair section fabricated up to fit

Image

and fitted

Image

Meanwhile Paul was chopping the sections needed for the area around the back windows

Image

whilst I was plug welding through the roof to join it to the quarter

Image

The door to quarter alignment was set

Image

and then the new panel was sawn through into the old panel to get a nice neat join

Image

More Later emoticon

Continued from earlier -

Paul then offered up the new top section for the window

Image

Whilst I stitched the old top to the new quarter

Image

Paul then scribed a line around the top section

Image

Then Paul cut out the excess from the new panel up to the lines made for the top section

Image

Meanwhile I was cutting out the rusty end of the gutter

Image

And also preparing the section for the gap in the top frame

Image

New top section was clamped in place

Image

Then tacked in

Image

And that was it for last night - Another 50 pics taken tonight so expect those soon emoticon

As Alex says, a fair few more pics taken this evening emoticon

as usual, posted in the order they are taken as it's easier

firstly, one of the seats was ready for filling

Image

so a liberal first skim was applied

Image

measured the rear window to compare to standard rear windscreen (i will do that on mine in the morning emoticon)

Image

2 nights on the run for Mr B, here he's fettling a piece for around the rear side window

Ash continued to strip the front skuttle

Image

whilst Alex welded around the rear window

Image

and the join between the new quarter and the yellow roof section

Image

then Ash moved inside the car with the wire brush wheel

Re: The JagerBug - Club Racecar

meanwhile Graeme and I were adding a bit of strengthening to the 2nd seat

Image

cleaning up the weld between the two panels

Image

Ash began stripping the firewall in the engine bay

Image

Graeme tackled the other side

Image

and I started stripping the dash

Image

but it wasn't long before the noise of 3 grinders going at once got the better of everyone  we left the grinding for another day whilst welding was done on the rear end, oo er

Re: The JagerBug - Club Racecar

over a cup of tea we unpacked the stinger donated from Garf, one of our club members, cheers mate emoticon

Image

it will look the business protruding from beneath our modified rear valance (not the one shown!)

Image

as is the case on so many 70's bugs, there was nasty rot at the bottom of both seams, here the offside has been cut out and a new piece cut from the other roof grafted in

Image

meanwhile, on the workbench, it was time to tackle the front beam emoticon

if you missed the explanation earlier, the plan is to narrow the beam by a whopping 6 inches due to running zero offset centrelines on the front. it's the only way to tuck the rims nicely under the arches without running wider wings

here Graeme is carefully grinding back the factory welds ensuring the weld is broken without cutting through the beam

Wow! If garages worked as fast and did as good a job as you guys then there would be a lot more VWs still on the road emoticon

Ever thought about going into business? I know Alex has a lot of time on his hands at the moment emoticon
