Meanwhile I was still sorting out the pan

Image

sorting out the trashed/abused beam captive nuts - I ended up machining some new threaded sleeves up on the lathe

Image

Image

before bolting the beam up using the new sleeves & welding them in situ

Image

Welded up - 3 out of 4 needed replacing

More pics in the morning from tonights antics emoticon

the casting being pressed back onto the axle tube. and it's true, you do learn something new every day, the shorter axles that we'll be using in the 'proper box' use the same axle tubes as for the longer axles, the difference is in the size / length of the casting emoticon

Image

note the freshly zinc plated cover plates too emoticon

Image

meanwhile, Paul was cleaning up and painting the brake calipers

and I had the joy of cleaning up the dirty smelly cv boots. we're reusing these rather than new ones as they are much better quality (read don't leak! emoticon ) and they're almost orange emoticon

Graeme will be holding gearbox building seminars at Sandown next weekend  he's taken so many of them apart over the last few weeks that he can now assemble / take them apart not only in his sleep but whilst blindfolded and with his arms tied behind his back!

also proof to the Graeme's missus that he was infact there, the missing wedding ring last week was down to him removing it to work on the car, not him sloping off on a Wednesday evening for any 'extra curricular' emoticon

Image

the axle tubes ready to go back on the box

Image

and then the temporary box was fitted (we've still not got round to building the box that we'll be racing with, the shorter race axles have just arrived on these shores and VW Heritage are kindly bringing them to Sandown so we can crack on with bullit proof box building on our return from Sandown)

Image

last job of the evening (around midnight  ) was Alex glueing the body to floor seal down after punching the bolt holes out in the correct places

Hi Guys! Hello from the other side of the planet! Just a quick note to wish you all the best for the weekend and Sunday haven't had a chance to look at everything but car looks to be really coming together as I knew it would - I wonder how much hair you all have left!? I hope you take plenty of pics of the moment she is unveiled, I would say I'm gutted to be missing it but I'd be lying emoticon

All the best! Volks (living it up in the sun) Repair Man emoticon
