posticon Fisher Price MY FIRST BEETLE!

Finally, after a very long wait I have been able to buy my very first Beetle. She's a '72 1302S Superbeetle which is great because the has 'mod cons' such as disc brakes but is still tax exempt emoticon

She features the following

1641cc fully balanced & lightened
Twin Dellorto 40s
Engle 110 Cam
Big valve head (40x35.5)
Electronic ignition and electric fuel pump

She was extensively restored in 2001 at a cost of £7,300!

I took it to PRP Autos in Lincoln. It's run by two brothers who are ralatives of a friend of mine. Paul looks after the mechanical side of things.

PRP Autos & Engineering

It cost me £185 for the session, but he does a very professional job, compared to another road in Lincoln I've used once before. Anyone who can balance twin carbs using a stethoscope knows what they're doing IMHO emoticon

Let the Chroming Begin!

I have made a start on getting some shiny bits on the car by removing the trim strips and taking the black paint off of them.

SC00631.jpg">Image

They were nice and simple to remove and I didn't even break any clips! Once off I used cellulose thinners to remove the paint (My cheap thinners from Wilkinsons did nothing!) and they've come up ok. Obviously not shiny chrome as they had been rubbed down to take the paint, but loads better than black!

SC00634.jpg">Image

Before refitting them, I cleaned off all the muck that had accumilated underneath them since they were fitted in 2001 and they look great! It's amazing how much difference it makes as the car is so dark otherwise!

Mmmm Shiny Hub Caps!

The domed hubcaps I've ordered have come through, get in emoticon Below is a pic before with no hubcaps (Looking like a German staff car!).

Anad here's after!...

It make SO much difference! I'm really pleased with how it looks. I've also now taken the paint off of the rear lamp trims and bonnet/engine lid handles and each bit of chrome makes it look that little better! I intend to get some proper chrome trim at some point and am in the market for a roof rack!

posticon New Roofrack and A Wash!

My new roof rack arrived this week and got some decent pics outside the garage today driving to a day out at Doddington Hall! Nice. Also a bit of lasy hand car wash action has brought her up nicely (And the sun helps!).
