Jon's mk1 golf formel "e"
Picked "brian" up about a fortnight ago from a mate of a mate in horncastle who dragged it out a field near me last march. He rushed it through it's mot with only a tiny patch needed to the passenger floor where water had pooled when it was sat.
So for the princely some of 700 smackers a wrestled it from his hands! Bargain really! it will need a bit of welding at the back of the inside nearside sill for it's ticket in my but thats an age away!
Rear valence and spare wheel tub are well and truly shot, but it passed the mot with it so I'll do it when i have the time!
It's also pretty economical being a 1.1 with the 3+E box in it. about 40-45mpg, even if the guage does tell me 45-55 lol. And that brings me to the next point...
ALL the electrics work, which for a barn find mk1 is quite impressive!!!!
The colours a rather rare one, LA6D, Selvas green. only done for 1983 on the golf, and only in the 1.1 models!
so here we are, pics a plenty, some robbed from the lincoln meet the other week, some mine.
this weeks job was mainly fitting the vw2 callipers owith new pads I had kicking around from my old mk3 polo, which has doubled my braking efficiency lol, and sorting the fecked exhaust out.
on the ramps with the exhaust off!
think it needs a wheel tub...
The link pipe cleaned up and given a coat of stove black!
The lesser spotted grinder-moron (aka my mate Skippy) cleaning up the centre pipe welds. It was made out of 3 bits of pipe with very leaky joins. so we welded it into one to save on joints.
All finished!
New backbox! bit of a hybrid tbf. scrap steel, a sierra 4x4 resonator box as the silencer and a stainless tip made from a motorcycle link pipe! I recon it looks almost factory made! Damn I'm good!
A quick shot of it fitted to the car. it's actually on a bit tight and touches the floor pan a little so it does need minor adjusting. but that may have to wait until i've got a new flexe for the front as its shagged!
Looks tidy doesn't it?
Jon.
