Re: Viewing Platform

Yep,6X6 pressure treated posts 18feet long.We have a busy lumber yard here on Gabriola with a population of around 5000 so supplies are no problem.I poured cement pads formed up with 2"X6" and it really helps to have a son who is 6',4" tall with long arms to lift those posts into place on the post saddles embeded in the cement. We had 2"X4" stakes hammered into the ground for the first couple of braces to be nailed to then once we had them all standing up there we nailed up the deck joists then 5/8" ply on top.Finished the deck by putting on some torched on roofing material.Still debating whether to put stairs to get up or an elevator.

Bill,
Last earthquake here that I can remember (which moved our electric stove about 2 inches) was in 1962 when I was in 1st grade.Vancouver Island lies within the line of the San Andreas fault and they keep saying we are due for a real shaker.
