Oil gland
If one is perhaps a little unsure as to the parentage of a young bird, how do you determine if the bird has an oil gland or not? What is it one should look for? Now,it may be easier to tell with a YB than an OB,so what is the method to find the oil gland on both old and young birds?

Re: Oil gland
At the base of the tailfeathers (where the birds go to preen themselves you should notice a small teat (no you dirty old man)!!
Another ways is to look at the next chicken you cook the part where the tailfeathers grow from (the Parson's nose to some) you will see the old gland on the top! Used to secrete oil to help waterproof the feathers; that is all other birds except ours!
Sincerely,
R
