I usually think of these things when I am lying under a kit but this came to me in the shower.
I am overflying my birds at the moment as I usually do this time every year. As you veterans know this causes them to perform less. That doesnt bother me as I am looking for air time and kit cohesiveness, putting birds in and out of kits. I also use this time to cull unsatisfactory birds, mostly those that want to pull the kit down early or sneak off and land while the rest fly, etc.
The question is: Does a bird that rolls well while being flown under these conditions perform even better when flown under optimum conditions?
Right now my birds are over fed and overflown. When I start looking for performance I will cut the feed by close to a third and fly every three days. I will probably start this in late December or early January.

Re: ability
EXCELLENT MESSAGE PAUL,
I THOUGHT THAT THE ABUNDANCE OF CROWS AND BUZZARDS IN MY AREA THIS YEAR HAS KEPT MY OLDER BIRDS FROM FLYING LONGER BUT I KNOW BELIEVE I BEEN DOING THE SAME AS YOU AS FAR AS OVERFEEDING AND EVERYDAY FLYING.I NOTICED THEY WOULD NOT FLY AS LONG NOR ROLL AS MUCH LATELY.
IM ALSO STILL FLYING THE YOUNGSTERS I RAISED AND THEY SEEM TO BE DOING BETTER THAN THE OLDER BIRDS AS FAR AS FLYING TIMES.FORTUNATELY THE BOPS HAVE BEEN ALLOWING ME TO FLY EVERY DAY.
I'LL TRY OUT YOUR THEORY AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
QUESTION;DO YOU STILL ADD 18% PELLETS TO YOUR OLDER FLYING STOCK BIRDS?
THANKS,
--- yankee mike

Re: ability
Yes I do. I am feeding wheat, milo, and pellets. I also give Austrian peas a couple of times a week. I time my birds daily now as I want them to fly the time. My Barreds flew forty five minutes today, the whites flew thirty three, the Husbands only flew fourteen but the were hasseling pretty hard when they landed. A few of the younger ones arent built up yet. All my birds flew really high today for some reason. I wish I had a way to tell how high they are. I noticed that at some point between three hundred and six hundred feet they all start to look black, even the whites.
