how high How high can a bird fly and you still see it with the naked eye and with binoculars. how high until they are of sight. And how high before oxygen deprivation affects them.

Re: how high I was at a falcon sky trial in Nevada this year. They had a laser rangefinder to measure the birds height. Some of the birds were over 1200',that's as high as it registered. At 1200' they were waaaay up there.I think an issue of the "Roller journal" magazine had an article on the height that you can still see a bird.I'll look to see if I still have it. It was from years ago.The guys put out cutouts of pigeons and measured the distances. Nick

Re: how high I have done some reasearch on this and would like to hear other opinions. I tried my range finder and I couldnt get a lock. I do know there is a point reached that they go from visible to gone in a blue sky. I have never been able to measure that distance. Past that you can see flashes only of sun on thier wings.
My road that runs east and west is straight nine miles before it turns and twenty the other way each power pole is 350 yards apart. But I think I can see farther in the sky than I can at ground level. This has always intrigued me.
Re: how high I remember reading somewhere that the highest recorded bird ever seen was a vulture over africa it was I believe over 5 miles up. My Serbian Highfliers which I had before my For's I know would go to incredible heights. I would watch them with a telescope on clear days and they would disappear from view for many hours at a time. These black Fehrholz's I have remind me of my Serbians a little. Their wings are similar and so are their eyes. I bet these babies can sky out no problem. Love the highfliers....

Re: how high Hey Sippi,I found the article,it's in the December '93 Roller Journal. It's a pretty neat article. The guys could make out the birds to right around 3000'and they thought maybe a little farther on a crystal clear day.If you want a copy to read pm me your address and I'll copy it and send it to you,or if you have a fax I can fax it from work.I don't have a scanner to copy it ontto the computer. Re: how high Nick, thanks, that's good to know.. now I wonder how high they can and do go? I think "into the clouds" is a stretch but maybe I am wrong?
