breeding preperations
Just curious as to what everyone does prior to breeding season to get the birds ready. Myself I run them through a course of a 4-1 mix to clean them up. Just in case they might have something lingering that could cause a problem. Also make sure they have oyster shells available and vitamins in the water.

Re: breeding preperations
Here we still only are getting 8.5 hours of light so if you are starting to breed early, jack em up with some electric lights to lengthen the day and make 'em think it's spring. At this time is the only break in the normal regimen of oyster shell and red grit, vitamins,ACV and garlic in the water when I also give them an all-in -one dose.During the moult period is also a good time for all in-one.Or 4-in-one then some yogourt in the water.

Re: breeding preperations
Vaccinations, de-worming, 3 day fast (with water), lots of probiotics alternated with rich vitamins.

Alan,
Why do you fast them 3 days?

Re: breeding preperations
Some use fasting to take excess weight off the birds for breeding. Not good to have to much weight on them.

Re: breeding preperations
The main reason fasting works is to super charge the immune system, which will naturally internally cleanse the birds and even heal them of problems we don't see. Nature does not have any meds or vaccines, so it uses fasting to accomplish the same results. Some Racing Homer guys are now using fasting to replace vaccines.
It works in humans too! I am a big believer in fasting every so often. In humans a 3 day fast will cleanse your blood and organs. A 5 day fast will start to heal problems in your body and mind. And a 10 day fast can heal even degenerative diseases. It works by giving your immune system a super charged boost. By shutting your digestive tract, the body can go to work on other areas of concern that it couldn't concentrate on otherwise. Of course this is juice fasting. You shouldn't go without liquids.

Dang, wish I had your kind of discipline,Al.I've been supposed to go for some blood tests since 2 months ago which require fasting 12 hours beforehand. Can't remember not to eat breakfast at 6:30am.

Re: breeding preperations
Well after getting all the medical preparations done. I have to make sure all my breeding pens are up to par. Making all necessary changes and remodeling. This year I have added many changes in my pens. That seems to take more time then anything else. I hope all my changes work out....lol

And a 15 day fast, can send you right up to the big man! LOL just kidding.
So what do you do? Give them only water for three days? Sounds intresting. I have heard of some folks doing this. But ruled it off as pure BS. But i guess not. I might try it in the winter when they are all fat and plump!

Re: breeding preperations
That's why I normally don't tell anyone about it, they think it's BS and there's no sense in throwing my pearls before swine.
Actually, a 15 day fast won't hurt you at all and can only do you good. Many people do 40 day fasts and in the process their body cures itself of all kinds of aliments medical science can't touch. At the very least your body will be detoxified. Why do you think the human race is plagued with cancer and heart disease. It's not from just smoking, it's also from filling your body with all kinds of chemicals from the air you breath, to the garbage you eat.
