Re: hand raising squabs
I understand. particualry with the Morrillero. Those guys are expensive and rare. And every egg they lay is valuable. Where as the rollers. Not as rare. I understand what you are using it for. It is kinda like a "back-up" plan just in case there isnt a pair to foster.

Re: hand raising squabs
Right.. I paid 1000.00 for two pair of the Morrilleros and would like to get a good stud of them going. Think that's high? Two years prior I couldn't get them for less than 1000.00 per pair. 1000.00 per pair is the same you will have to pay to get Moroncelos and Palmoa de Clase. That's why I don't have any.

Re: hand raising squabs
in Miami a few people can sell Moroncelos for around 5 or 600 a pair. But they are closly inbred.

Re: hand raising squabs
her is the way i fed some of my new born doniks
www.internationaldovesociety.com/Recipes/FeedingTip/easyhandfeeding.htm
The mother was one of the best divers i had but she would always abandon her eggs.b@#$* !
I liked this method better because of the fact I didn't have to push a syringe down in to the crop.when they're that small very easy for something to go wrong. And yes they do grow lot slower maybe even double the time it would if mom was feeden u'm .so I wouldn't recommend hand feed from birth unless you really had to (no choice) ,if you want to hand feed for fun let the baby's stay with mom for a week or 2 then separate and hand feed you'll have much better results. good luck

Re: hand raising squabs
Danny,
Pitt Meadows is just east of Vancouver in the -burbs.We live on Gabriola Island just 28 miles west of Vancouver, and a short ferry ride from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
It is not hard to get birds imported from the US.You need to have a breeder willing to do the vaccination for pmv and have the vet inspect the birds and loft of the exporter, fill out the forms,USDA certification, ship via USPS to nearest border P.O. then pick up birds and cross the border to have the papers inspected by the CFIA vet at the border point.Gone clear, just don't say the birds are for show and no problems.Say they are for breeding purposes.
