Re: Flying Orientals in Canada?
It may be a problem finding someone willing to take this on in the US.It is one thing having a freind receive/vacc/hold 1/2 a dozen birds but doing the same with 20 birds or so is something else.

Re: Flying Orientals in Canada?
It's not like we have 1000 or 2000 members of the FORS and someone will step up for this task.
Another problem is a lack of supply. Supply isn't only a problem in Canada, it is in the US as well. I now tell people wanting birds to join the club and make some friends with some of the members, have patience and ask around. In time they will find some good birds.
Kel, you may end up doing more breeding than flying. But that's OK too. If it comes to that, put the FOR eggs under your Homers as fast as they can lay them and you can supply your Canadian members in no time.

Re: Flying Orientals in Canada?
I'm really happen some one will step to this one.
We must make it convenient as possible or(worth the trouble)for the person.
I wouldn't have a problem per paying for the expenses [vet and border papers shipping] and for the time that they spent getting things together.which expenses could be split by us [the buyers].
I live 45 minutes [Toronto] from the niagara falls boarder ,so wouldn't have any trouble picking the birds up and bringing them across to Canada and then shipping off to new homes in Canada.
just a thought!

Re: Flying Orientals in Canada?
What about eggs? Can you bring eggs back to Canada from the US or do they need to be Vet inspected and vaccinated?

Re: Flying Orientals in Canada?
According to someone on another forum they do treat eggs the same as live birds. I have only heard this second hand, but it doesn't surprise me, so I'm inclined to believe it.
I also agree about the pre-paying for expenses and making it worth while. There really isn't any other way. Unless someone is very generous and trusting of everyone here.

Re: Flying Orientals in Canada?
Another freind of mine here in BC just phoned me this morning and he would like to import 5 pair of ORs.He figures he has a contact in Wash. state who will vacc/hold/ship birds for him.Now the trick also is to find the birds to purchase.I hereby wish all OR breeders in the US and elsewhere an EXCELLENT breeding season.
As far as eggs goes,I'd just pack 'em well, ship 'em as chocolates and be done with it.All KINDS of things make it through the mail service and sometimes forgiveness is easier to get than permission.People bring chicken eggs across the border everyday with groceries bought in the US.Why not pigeon eggs?

Re: Flying Orientals in Canada?
A response to that last comment came to mind immediately but I'd better not gross you folks out any more than our buddy nick already did .AAAArRRGGHHH maan It' a hard life at sea let me tell ya billie.
But yeah,I'm always up for a little adventure and have been known to carry things across borders I'm not supposed to.My last magical trick was bringing a really cool cactus from my mother-in-laws house in Colombia(fit inside my spare socks quite well) to our house here,it has tripled in size since I planted it. Once my BRs have been through a couple rounds I'll see if I can't get one of you guys to send a few eggs USPS.
