Re: Almond OR
Perhaps the word “classic”, is an American term, rather than a European or worldly word. Like a Calico cat…, is a calico cat. There isn’t any given difference between the shadings of color from one calico and another.
Myself, when I think of a “classic” almond, I think of a pigeon that is pretty much evenly colored, among the three colors. Or pretty much equally yellow feathering, black feathering and then of course the white feathering. Or even maybe a bit heavy on the yellow feathers.
But a bird that is predominantly one color, w/ just a few of the other two colors (being just enough to make it technically an almond), I would just call it an almond bird.
Now that’s just MY definition or thinking on the name almond. Perhaps some may agree w/ my statements and some may have a totally different way of looking at this color name. To me the “classic” almond is much more rare, then the normal/ average almonds raised. And of course being more difficult to breed for. But, as I say…., this is just MY way of thinking.

Re: Almond OR
Classical Almond is basically a combination of T-pattern, Kite Bronze, heterozygous Recessive Red and of course Almond. It has the ground color of the inside of an almond shell.
Some people think all true "Almonds" as Classical Almond, but this is in error. Almond can be any combination of genetic factors and expressions as long as the Almond gene is present. Depending on what genes are present is what we call them. For example, a bird that's Spread (Black) Almond is called "Sprinkle" by OR fanciers but by Danish Tumbler fanciers it's called "Stripper."
It's a fact that other Almonds besides Classical Almond have been breed centuries before Classical Almond was even thought of. It was only a little over 150 years ago when the British started breeding the English Shortface Tumbler and that was the birth of the "Classical Almond". FYI the British used OR's to introduce Almond into their Tumblers.
Besides those I mentioned the Magnani Modena is also an Almond. So are Deroys, Blue Bar Almonds, Checker Almonds and Ash Red Almonds. You can have Indigo Almonds, Andalusian Almonds, Brander Bronze Almonds, Toy Stencil Almonds, Reduced Almonds. The possibilities are almost endless. It just depends on what patterns and factors are involved along with Almond gene.
