Charcoal

It has been three years but I have finally raised another?? I think?? charcoal Husband bird. I will get some pics of him/her shortly. He is just out of the nest today. He isnt out of the same pair as the last one because the last one was an 05 and the hen this one is out of is also an 05. Could be the same cоck though. Since I have misplaced my older records I dont know. This one is out of my deepest hen though.

Re: Charcoal

I knew I started a thread on charcoal. He may be more of a brown but I think he will go to the gray rather than black. We shall see.

Dunno, maybe a variation of Tuff? What color are it's parents?

Re: Charcoal

The cоck is an Ember bar tuff and the hen is the brown check.

Re: Charcoal

I have never mated two Tuffs together. I suppose that's why I don't get odd stuff like that... maybe I need to start. But it's going to be hard because I believe I have never raised a Tuff hen. The only one I have ever had was the one from you and she died before she could be paired up.

I guess I just didn't keep a lot of them long enough to tell the sexes.

Re: Charcoal

I used to mate only tuff to tuff and buff to buff but have been mating deepest to deepest without regard to color the last two years. I will probably mate a few father/daughter, mother/son pairs in the next year of two. Although I am not totally happy with the father/daughter matings I made this year. I have had some stability issues when they reach three to four months old. That was a Buff to Buff mating. I will repair the cоck back to a tuff hen next year.
