Lemon eye
I bred my only orange eyed black hen to a pearl eyed cоck and produced one lemon eyed bird. I think the other is going to be pearl eyed. I will try to get a pic in a few days. I finally stopped raining today and I got to fly after five days.
Now we are going to get hit by a hurricane next week!!!! WHOOPEEEEE!

Re: Lemon eye
Right ! The blue bar cоck & black hen that I have are one of his other lines…, Turkish/ Turkistan. And his Tuff & Buff line, the other pr I have (tuffies as he likes to calls them), are the Kurdish/ Kurdistan. Which is one reason there is a little difference in the head type. And as far as I know (ask him) the only forked tails come from the Kurdistan line. As for his line of white ORs he offered me, I said no thank you, as I have lots of white homers and I’d rather have something w/ color. Although I do think the white ORs are good looking, and I’m sure (being his line) they would be very good performers, I would rather go w/ the really old blood lines. Again, I figure if the old blood from the Far East was good enough to help start all the other Roller breeds we have today, then that’s what I’d like to have in my lofts. But now it’s been mos., since I’ve talked w/ him, so I might be confused on this matter. I’m getting old like Dale, but he still has a few yrs on me.
And as for the show people not liking the gold eyes…, that’s one reason I told Dale I’d take his black hen. IF the show people didn’t want it… I DID. As I knew it would be something from the past/ long ago blood line. And my way of thinking was/ is that the further away/ back I could get in the blood lines and away from the show type, the more likely the performance would be. Of course as you know, Dale never did go along w/ those show type birds. So he never bred for the show cage !
One of the stories he told me was, that he did show his birds a couple of times, but never won anything. But that one judge did tell him, that his bird was that day , (in his opinion) “the best of the bunch”, but that it was just a little to small. And the judge went on to say that, “you know those shop people like a big bird”.
Well obviously I am getting old, as here I am rambling on again…., sorry….
Have a good fly day guys….

Re: Lemon eye
You know, for those just starting out w/ the ORs, you might want to go on the net and look up some of the old maps of Persia/ Far East. You can then see the trail/ route of the OR and how they spread out and around the world. The OR history tells that they began in and around northern Iraq, or the Kurdish area and the Iranian north country.
You can then see how they went north west into Turkey and on to Germany and from Iran they went on to the east to the Asian part of the world. From Turkey, you can see how simple it was for them to travel on to Greece and then to Rome and hence on to Germany/ Europe. So the pottery showing the OR on it, dating (what was it) 600 B.C., is not just the beginning but at least (IMO) a couple of hundred or more yrs from the start in Iraq & Iran. Keep in mind, that in those times men traveled far and wide. And took their whole families and belongings w/ them. And that LOTS of trading was being done along the way and before they returned to their home land/ area of Persia lots of interactions took place. Showing off what animals they had, different articles of cooking and fashion, foods, herbs and of course games and betting took place. I can see the men and boys now all in a circle, sitting on the ground/ sand, watching the ORs flying over head and laughing, cheering and having a big time showing off their best flyers doing their rolls and dives, twists and turns in the air over head.
There was no TV, radio, PC’s, telephones or any other type of communication other than GO THERE….., on foot or on what ever animal you might have to ride upon. This was the Far East/ Persia…., it was the beginning of time…… That’s what OUR blood lines go back to.
Enjoy and have a good fly day...
