Almond X Almond
I paired up two Almond Fehrholz birds this year. I have never paired two Almonds in fear of the genetic defect it causes on Homozygous Almonds that are produced.
Usually they will die in the egg or at hatching but sure enough I have one in the nest I banded the other day. He is pure white and he looks like he has the dreaded "bladder eye" homozygous Almonds are known for. He seems healthy enough but one of his eyes pops out a little. I feel sorry enough for the little guy not to pair Almond X Almond again.

Re: Almond X Almond
If it is the one with pics of bladder eyed birds,I have it.Not the nicest photos to put in a newsletter actually, kind of make you want to regurgitate tho a good education tool on the dangers of breeding almond to almond.

Re: Almond X Almond
Alan,
I used to breed alot of almonds, Don't have any now. I always bred some homozygous almond cоcks for my breeders as I found I got the best classic colored birds from them and Kite, Res Red or check hens showing alot of bronze. In fact, my older brother Don once used 11 of them one year. All were mated to Clayton Lutes blue or red check hens. Boy did he have a kit of almonds that year as the homo/cоcks breed 100% almonds. (I guess you know I have been talking about Birminghams) You can't fly them as they are near sighted, but they do just fine in the stock loft. You will have different degrees of bad eyes on them, some you can't hardly tell.
Good luck with the birds Alan, Bob Munson
