Brown OR's

Posted by Frank Mosca on the Genetics forum:

"Since we're talking about brown - (and totally off the subject being discussed) - I just thought some of you might enjoy seeing what's been done with it in the past six years or so in OR's. I made the original cross using a "Tuffy" Oriental roller cоck I'd bred from birds from Dale Husband X brown Spread baldhead (looked to be het bald) flying West of England that still tumbled that I'd found in a feed store. (Honestly, it started out for two reasons - one, I happen to like brown spread. Second, it was sort an unknown "apology" from me to the breed since in my infinite brilliance, I'd blown off questions folks my friends, including George DeLa Nuez, J.P. Isom, etc., had asked me about "buff" and "tuff" back in the 80's. I just "knew" it was some brown variant, even though they insisted to me that it wasn't and couldn't be since there was no brown in OR's. When I got my own birds in the 90's, I realized they were right and that "buff" and "tuff" were unique. Then we found out about "ember". So adding brown was sort of my personal redemption, if you will. :-)

I raised a couple of cоcks from that original mating, both just minorly groused and flew them to be sure they rolled. Then I lost my house and one of the cоcks went to J. P. Isom, who's been working with the line since then. With lots of backcrosses into OR's, he's gotten some beautiful birds, including het brown almond cоcks. I'm linking to the page where I posted the pics at the UORA site since I have no idea how to attach pics if I'm posting at the site.

I think J.P.'s done a fantastic job though some difficult circumstances and two moves and I'm looking forward to seeing the birds both in the show room and in the air.

I work with a lot of these types of project but only in my Pouters and Catalonian Tumblers. That's what's in my secret basement. emoticon

Well I think I know were the browns came from now as I have raised three this year from a dunn hen and a ember cоck. When I did the history on my first pairs these guys were not mentioned in the history of my birds.

Hi Bob,

Are you certain they are true genetic Browns?
