Re: White bird update. Hope on everyone on this forum can have fun with the B an M word! Sippi did you look at the oil gland on the Galati,s donot know if yours do. All of these in KY. have one. One here in KY. band no. 1202 also. Bob T.
Re: White bird update. With Birmingham Rollers there is no standard for colors. I asked some of the Geneticists what constituted going back to a breed again once a cross was made and the most any of them would say was 15/16, which I believe is 5 generations. Some of them didn't even care what % they were as long as they were breed type, one of them even said he hated the use of the word "purebred" to define a pigeon.

Re: White bird update. Bob I handled at least a dozen today and forgot to even look. I will try and remember that tommorrow. I have never looked because Levi said it wasnt there, so I didnt want to waste my time hunting what didnt exist.
On the upside I had a blue 08 Galati start doing two and three flips today. That is as early as one has ever rolled. Hopefully in a couple of years that will be the norm.
Re: White bird update. I will have two more white birds in the kit next week and a fourth the following week. Dont know when Mini me will grow up. The white cоck came in to land with kit today and took back off by himself. He went up about a hundred feet and started putting on a show. Just single and double flips but one about every thirty or forty five seconds. He did better alone than he has ever done with the kit.
Re: White bird update. Good luck on your whites Sippi! It will be nice getting some good performing whites spread around. I am hording mine and should have some to sell next year.
To everyone that has gotten the Fehrholz "Pencils" from me, they carry recessive white, so when bred to one another you will get a small percentage of rec whites. I have also gotten a few pearl eyed whites when breeding Pencil x Pencil. The pearl eyed white situation here has to be as Dennis said in the last bulletin, a couple of Grizzle factors coming together making these pearl eyed whites.

Re: White bird update. I put up my white kit yesterday afternoon along with two Harter birds and a couple of Fehrholts. They really enjoyed being out and were fairly easy to get to light only on the roof of the kit box. However the whites and two Fehrholts got an F in trapping. It started raining about two hours after I had released them. Meanwhile I flew all my kits that I had with me. I didnt want to leave them but being dressed well (shorts, flip flops, no shirt) I was freezing my butt off. I went home to get dry and warm and went back at dark to get them. All the whites were safely trapped in and dry. The two Fehrholts were so wet they couldnt fly and were sitting on the tire of the mobile box. I didnt cut thier feed before release yesterday. I will fly them again today and if they dont trap better they will be on short rations tomorrow.
Re: White bird update. The whites are proving to be very atypical Husband birds they are flying now and take to the air very willingly. With two days they were trap trained. Now at five days they are flying. I have never had young Orientals of any line come on that fast. The Harters too are trying to fly. Looks like an easy bunch to train for a change. One of the whites is diving and tail riding already. Cant wait to have about dozen to fly. I have four more in foster nests and one more pair on eggs so it wont be long.
Re: White bird update. I have four white birds flying now and a couple of more coming on. A couple of the young ones are flipping single flips. They flew twenty minutes today. They take to the air much better than most Husband birds. Only problem I am having now is they are all cоcks so far. I have only raised three or four hens all year in any family of Orientals. Of course I like flying cоck kits but it sure will be tough to stock just cоcks.
Re: White bird update. Havent updated the whites lately. The last round bird in the kit started trying to roll today. All so far roll in a typical straight roll. They will tail ride at the end of a roll but mostly just rolling. The latest bird does a funny variation of a plate roll combined with a twizzle and a flip. He will be interesting to watch mature and see what he does with that.
