trap training

I just read on Earls list something so simple to trap train it is pathetic I havent thought of it before. Put a training cage on the side of the kit box and put an out trap on the top and an in trap on the bottom. A little feed and water and the birds trian themselves.

Re: trap training

Cant you use a settling cage like we do with rollers? You can see my settling cage but I dont know if this is something that will help.

Hey Kel,
Brian Middaugh here from Sciotoville, Ohio. Getting tired of flying birds and the BOP's carry off more than I like so I want to get started with some good orientals so I can fly all winter long {During lockdown}.
Thanks Brian

Re: trap training

Thats exactly how I do it. I put them in it for about 1 week. Then I drop the traps so they come thru to get fed.

Re: trap training

Welcome Brian glad you made it to our website. Here's a quote from Alan. I would jump on it they go pretty quick. New guys are always looking to buy all the time. I got some awesome birds that developed their flying skills into three combo moves that I'm now breeding (Fehrholz). Go to the Classified and you'll see Alan and the rest are selling them in that section.

quote:

Due to a dead beat buyer, I have about a dozen young Fehrholz FORs for sale. Almond, Black, Mottle, Red, Kite etc.

Re: trap training

Here is my method of trap training Fehrholz flying Oriental Rollers.
On Jan 11th I weaned two babies and one more on the 17th,(29-30 days of age.)
On the morning of the 17th (same day) I opened the trap. They came out on their own and landed on the main coops fly pens. At the end of the day they were trapped and I shut the trap and fly pen door.
Yesterday we were gone and they were inside all day. this morning they came out on their own again and landed on the main coop fly pens. I walk over to them and pick each one up (tame) and placed them on the landing board and went into the house . End of trap training.
