Full Moon

Full moon is coming and the moon here is very high at near dark. I have heard a lot of Birm fliers say that they never fly on evenings with a high bright moon.

Today I flew a kit of Husband birds and after they trapped I released my 08 Fehrholt kit. I watched them for about fifteen minutes and then went to feed all the other stock. When I came back about an hour later to close the trap..... no birds!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I laid back on the grass and looked for them. Not a bird in sight.

So it looks like I flew away all my Fehrholt kit. Some 07's as well. Several potential stock birds in that kit too.

Has anyone else had an experience like this concerning the bright moon?

I had not heard that, Paul. I flew a kit of Fireballs this afternoon late but didn't have a problem with them trapping? Sure hope they are back in the morning!

WOW!!! Tough break sippi.I know exactly how you feel.I lost all 3 of my last fehrholz birds that i bought from Alan to hawks and overflys. It broke my heart so i quit flying the ones i raised for a while.I still am able to fly my other or's with no problems in fact i had 2 kits of babys out today.all returned unharmed and already impressive.
Im puzzled what you wrote about the full moon.we use to fly tipplers all night when the moon was full plus we had a hugh spotlight to help direct them to the lofts.
are you saying the full moon scares the birds off or disorients them?
curious to know,

Paul,[sippi]
Glad you got at least 2 birds back.Your lucky in that respect but how many birds were in the kit?
Remember when i first flew your husband youngsters you gave me? i lost 3 of the 4 birds but they did manage to find their way back after ''2'' days of being gone. Now they fly wherever they want and always come home that same day. What im trying to say is;tomorrows another day and hopefully you'll have them waiting for you on their loft.
good luck my friend,

Re: Full Moon

Some of the Birm guys think that the full moon makes them fly past dark and have the tendency to overfly. I havent ever had a problem with it. But I dont normally fly my highfliers too close to dark.

I had eight birds in that kit. I put five more in it today so it is back to seven. I have overflown Fehrholt kits more than once. emoticon emoticon emoticon I flew off my first kit of one dozen and only got seven back. Some as late as two weeks later though. It is all part of it.
