I have never seen a merlin actually catch a Birmingham, but have talked to people who have. They are definitely too small to fly of with a pigeon. I would think that a FOR would be hard for a merlin to kill even if it did catch up to it.
Merlins and Birminghams are fairly evenly matched as far as speed and maneuverability. It would be fun to watch at someone else's loft. LOL
I think that the FOR's will make if fun to watch here.

From what I've seen a merlin is way more manueverable than a birm. I've watch them just about turn inside out shadowing a sparrow or starling move for move. Nick
