My fist BOP hit!!!! YIKES!!!
Had a kit of 5 up with 1 Fehrholz and 4 of Samir’s birds. They were pretty high and just having fun when from well above them a very small BOP came in stooped, straight down into the kit. The entire kit broke and dove for the woods. I heard a very loud crashing sound (I was about 1000 yards away) and then the 4 birds I got from Samir came hauling ass home. They trapped at light speed and looked at me like “WTF was that?” No sign of the Fehrholz yet after about 3 hours. The BOP was very small. Probably about the same size as the pigeons. Any ideas of what it was? I don’t think we have peregrines here in Tennessee, but it attacked in a full dive like I have seen peregrines on TV. Maybe she will make it back. WOW!! That sure gets the juices flowing!!!!!

Re: My fist BOP hit!!!! YIKES!!!
Usualy if they hide in trees they show up next day. Since you didn't see it get cought, chances are you'll see the bird again. Single atack in streamline right into kit sounds like a falcon. Maybe Kestrel. Cearfull Ken You should be in midle of migration now.

Re: My fist BOP hit!!!! YIKES!!!
There's no way I will train birds this time of year! This is the worse possible time because there's adult hungry migratory BOP all over the place. I like to train birds the last of April or so, once the migration is over, then fly the birds all the rest of the year till they get in good condition, know the terrain and gain some experience before entering the Hawk wars in the fall.

Re: My fist BOP hit!!!! YIKES!!!
Ouch.Everywhere is different ,eh?Seems the hawks have gone through here already but the peris are here just eating at a different restaraunt these days.Probably starting to nest too.It is hard to have birds and not fly them.I have 6 winter hatch birds I'm flying 4 days in a row now and (touch wood)no attacks. It goes from attacks every release of the rollers to fly everything and no hits for days.In one of those periods right now and just lucky.got to get these birds going tho and not let them get lazy.getting some good tailrides down and twizzles and double rolls.

Re: My fist BOP hit!!!! YIKES!!!
I'm not talking about flying birds this time of year, I am talking about training this time of year.

Re: My fist BOP hit!!!! YIKES!!!
I had 11 fall/winter hatch birds that I feel I have to train ASAP.2 have already gone to the breeder loft(no choice)and 3 were lost while training which is still going on.I felt it was either take the chance training them or they would grow to have bad habits like lollygagging on the roof.I think if I only had 4 of Samir's birds, they would go straight to the breeder loft, but I need to go through a lot more trouble to get them(importing).

Re: My fist BOP hit!!!! YIKES!!!
If it was the size of the pigeon,it might have been a merlin, sharpie or a little male coopers. We have quite a few resident coopers here,so it's pretty much hawk season year round. When my squeaks are weaned it's into the kitbox. I think the longer you wait to train them, the harder you're making it to get good results.Try to figure out and time your breeding around the hawk season. Once again I think your success at out flying the BOP has to do with 3 things, location, location and yep, location
