Thanks Kelly & Paul. She was in a little trouble yesterday. Feathers ruffled up and carried her tail low, but after a nice bath and some rest, she flew perfectly again today. This time the flight was on the usual time instead of 2 hours earlier. They did fly higher than usual and no sooner got up when a young eagle flew past. The eagle just kept on trucking.... emoticon

It's Monday morning at 7:00 a m, and lightly raining and a bit of fog mixed in. Visability less then 100 ft. upwards. As I searched the area along the tree line, I saw 3 Coopers sitting in my local Hawk tree... This is a "first"..
Usually I see only 1 perched up their. Looks like I "really" got to pay attention to
"who's" sitting and watching now...

Mine have not been interested in leaving the loft either the past 2 days, but that's been ok with me after the henry incident. Maybe they sense the migration is beginning. The starlings and song birds have been gathering into flocks preparing to head for warmer territory. Somebody somewhere must get a ton of hawks when they finally get where they are going... emoticon

Hawks are not my biggest problem here. It's the damn Henery(Falcons). If you look at a map of Henery migratory patterns, you'll see that they don't ever leave the west coast.Guess immigration won't issue 'em a passport as they are such criminals emoticon

Re: First BOP this year...

Shortly after yesterdays post, I went out and they wanted to fly. All was normal until they landed on the loft. Before they could trap in, a coopers hawk ambushed them. Just like everyone has said here, big trees by the loft aren't good. I see those trees in a different light now...FIREWOOD...The hen did not return yesterday or this morning, so I have to write her off. Last night I put a chemically activated handwarmer in with her young one and put dad in with it. Baby is doing fine today. After contacting the fellow last night where I originally got the birds from, he told me he had a good hatch and will ship me 4 more. He will wait a little longer to determine if they are hens or cоcks.
