Which birds are you talking about?

Re: Orme Strain
Al,
Those birds from Alberta(Skistimas strain)won't get off the roof unless mr cooper is swooping around.Even when I take them down the road and let them go they want to land on ME!!My neighbours think I'm a real nutcase(they are partially correct actually!) when they see me waving the pet carrier at the birds flying around me.I guess they will go in with my 5 "pet" BRs and they can all have "issues" together.
Bob,
Your suggestion may happen yet.I'll scan $250 on the computer and tape the pic to their headstone to remind me where that money went!!

Re: Orme Strain
It don't suprise me. Skistimas breeds his birds for exhibition. You could always use them for Fosters. Glad you got some fliers from Bob.

Same as 5 birds that cost 50 cents each. Live and learn, I took a big $ hit on some birds from Texas when I first started.

I know... he doesn't believe there is such a thing as a "Flying" type Oriental Roller. He believes they are all the same. He told me when he visited some OR lofts in Germany that the old timers told him that they didn't know of anyone in Germany that flew their birds anymore. We know that's in complete error. Samir even gave an OR flying report from Germany. I also spoke in depth Tortsen, the Germany OR flyer who visited my home from Germany. He knows Fehrholz and said there are a lot of flyers in Germany.
If I was looking for fliers and only had a choice between Skistimas birds and Orme birds, I would buy Orme birds.

Re: Orme Strain
After ten months of constant flying I had one of my birds caught by the tip of its wing at the loft a couple days ago. The birds were just coming down when they got ambushed. I was at the back of the loft when the air raid alarm went off (my rooster), I came around to see one of my birds about 20ft away being carried off, by my guess a big Cooper it was not able to fly over the orchard and my dog was chasing so it could not land, The bird was released. That bird joined the other 3 birds I had out and they flew around for another 20 minutes. I have flown my birds the last two days without another attack. But it proves to me the ORs are vulnerable at the loft. But,10 months no losses these ORs are amazing.

Re: Orme Strain
I was flying four birds today, they were about 30ft. up when a hawk came streaking in it never got closer then about 5ft to any bird and gave up chase. It must have been a local and new it was a waist of energy to continue chase. My birds did not seem bothered, they went up a little higher and came down later acting normal.
