most popular strains

Hi all--
Are the Husbands and the Fehrholz the two most popular strains of FORS in America?

Thanks, Sher

It's hard to say what's going on in all of America, I only get around in cyber space and of course the club. But I can say they are the most popular in the circles I travel. Personally, through the years I have tried a lot of other strains and didn't care for them, that's why I have settled on these two.

Ok--that's helpful. I am also interested to know if rollers in general spend a fair amount of time on the ground or Oriental Rollers in particular. I saw some videos if ORs and I noted they are very comfortable walking around on the ground and just hanging out on the ground.

I never see this in my racers, but I do see it in my OR, which are Husband type and Fehrholz types.

Personally it is a dangerous trait, for them, in my country.

Do all rollers do this? Or just ORS and why? Maybe no one can say why.

Another question --if you have both types- do you fly one type one day and the other type the other day? I have heard that they fly at different levels in he sky.

So if you release a kit of Husband types and a kit of Fehrholz- is it your experience that they stay in their kit and perform pretty much solely with their group, or do they switch? I would a like a sense of what others experience. Thanks, Sher

Sher,
At first I was flying Amir's, Husbands and Fehrholz together. They would separate themselves into 3 groups. Amir's and Fehrholz up high with the Husbands below.
I now fly only like with like andin groups of 3 to 5. All three strains perform better for me handled separately.

Hmm,depends how much time you have.I get home from work at Rum-30 and am flying birds till sunset(after 9pm here right now)except to go in the house and eat.The garden tends to get really soaked in patches when my head is tilted up to watch birds fly.It is a matter of getting the kit you have flying to trap in rapidly to give the next bunch a chance to fly.Different strains, different breeds all need to fly separate whether they are Birmingham Rollers,Orientals,Doneks or even different families within the same breed. My red Doneks don't fly well with my blacks. My BRs with a little Bill Barrett strain in them don't fly good with my BRs that are pure Pensom based(Monty Neible's strain).

Kelly and SD--thanks. Maybe I will need to go down to one type...Things are getting a little chaotic around here with both Husbands and Fehrholz. Okay, I hear what everyone is saying, and I am going to keep working with them, and maybe decide on one or the other, because it is tough to try and fly them together...I mean two types separately out of one loft. Kelly --your description made me laugh!

It's work allright to get everyone flown every day.My 12 Donek flyers are in one loft and 2 are not wanting to elevate so they are used as droppers along with the fantails.I box them up first then box up the blacks and chase the reds out, then when the reds dive down and into the loft,I let the blacks out of the box.If i am impatient and let them all out at once they land right away and lollygag on the roof.

I have started flying every third day, so first day is Amir's, second day is Fehrholz and third day Fehrholz. I usually fly the BR's first, they will stay up 35 min to an hour. Then the OR's.

Have any of you played with the feed to see how it affects performance. I have found Amir's advice to be correct, my OR's do better fed up a bit.
