Re: Samir birds.
I just re-read this whole thread...
Not to start any trouble, but. In your website Alan, you have this read.."Birmingham Roller Guardians" by Paul Sisk
If it wasn't for this read I wouldn't have gotten into Orientals. As a person not knowning anything about the breed. I was impressed with their flying ability....At the time I read this atricle it was in the height of the "Hawk" problems going on all over the U.S.. Call me naive..... That was the selling point for me. The ability to out manuver a hawk... Oh,sorry I have to stop and go and see my psychiatrist.

Re: Samir birds.
To be honest they are good at evading birds of prey but no birds will do it 100% of the time. You can argue this one until the cows come home. BUT!
Every time a birds of prey attacks its planned dinner is a new situation sometime the hawk wins sometimes the pigeon....But I will bet my money on the bird of prey in the end. You must remember this is survival for him and in the end the function of the pigeon is converting grain to red meat which in turn feeds the preditors, that is just the way it is. Darwin at its best!

Re: Samir birds.
The possible evasion of the BOP by Orientals is what peaked my interest, and what precipitated my initial visit to "Sippi" with Don Bowen. My impression of the birds based on that visit is in the FORS bulletin following Paul's article "Birminham Roller Guardians"
I didn't take anyone's word as a guarantee that OR's were Hawk Proof, nor have my OR's been Hawk Proof, in the 2 years that I have been flying OR's, I have lost a total of 4 OR's to the BOP but it is far less than the number of BR's, 35, I have lost. The OR's evasive tactics still interest me but the variety of flight performance is my main interest, they just do more stuff!
Their ability to out run the BOP is gravy!
