Orme bird. Red tuff...
Well I might as well come out of the closet with this one. Remember a long time ago I said all my Orme birds were either dead from hawks or given away. Well my friend that I gave three of them away to gave me the only one that survived back, and I have bred her into a husband tuff. The babies are doing remarkably well except for the roof sitter that got eaten...The babies from her are much higher flyers than the Husbands in general. They roll good and are good hawk evaders. This hen was the best one out of the 8 I recieved from Mark Orme 2 plus years ago. She looks a little different than the Husbands but is a dandy bird in the air and in the hand. Could she be a decendent from Husband birds? Hard to say. The world will never know. She was flown vary hard at my friends place with homers B'hams etc. He said she out flew every hawk that came by. The other two Orme birds got killed by hawks though....Could have Husband blood?????? If anything will give me some fun with experimentation and breeding vigor etc..

Re: Orme bird. Red tuff...
Looks like Orme is still not a popular subject on this site. Want to make it clear when I try a cross of families in an open breeders loft I only bring in a hen so as not to have an accidental mating. So far the babies from this mating are excellent. And they fly higher and longer than my Husbands. In fact they skied out the other day into the blue for over two hours. They also have excellent rolling and diving skills. Still have not flown them long enough to say how their hawk evading skills are yet. Looking to breed a brother sister mating from this and might start a new sub family within my loft. The possibilities are endless with the matings....Frankenstein again...smile.. Maybe I wont need to ever get any Fehrholz's?
Naw just kidding I still want them....
Bruce.

Re: Orme bird. Red tuff...
My game plan for right now Nick is for the most part keeping the families pure. However that does not mean we cannot sometimes try an experimental mating. I basically have two lofts. One for breeding and one for flying. I can seperate my flyers and only fly certain families at a time. Thats why I was interested in the Samir birds as I figure why not try out a pair and fly the babies. I will still say as of right now because I have been only flying them for awhile that the Husbands are my main birds. But again I will try others and enjoy what they have to offer. I know the Fehrholz strain is one I'm going to put some time in for sure. The side experiments are just that. Experiments. But even the Originals from the Middle East were experiments at one time...All this stuff is fun and keeps this hobby from going stale.

Re: Orme bird. Red tuff...
Flew a small kit of birds this morning with the Orme blood in them. A tuff cоck and two tuff hens that are half Orme and half Husband flew nice and high for me kind of like my Fehrholz blacks did. They flew for about just under an hour as it was getting warm out. On their way down to land the female Cooper came out of a tree from accross the street I beleive she is the one that ate their sibling the other day. Anyways the coop chase down very fast and hard on the cоck and the cоck out flew it with no problem at all. Looks like I will have a potential new family to work with by my own making. Guess I will stick with what I got and not bring in any more birds. Have many experiments with future matings to perform...

Re: Orme bird. Red tuff...
Bruce can I ask you how can you still call mixed birds tuff and buff if you have Orme or any other pigeons blood in them.They should be called something else.I toughed only pure Husband birds are called Tuffs and Buffs or what ever you call that strain any ways?I See now some guys are creative.Great job.I like when somebody is trying to do that.It is booring to stick only with one the same strain any ways , right.Orme birds are great looking OR-s by the way. Thanks.

Re: Orme bird. Red tuff...
What i'm thinking - if you bred FOR to a homer, their baby's never going to overfly and lost...
Then you pair that "FOR" to a fantail, to get more beatifull look...
Then you pair that "FOR" to a chicken, so their baby's will fly and roll as a real FORs and plus, will produce an eggs.
What a wonderfull pigeons are Oriental Rollers!!!

Re: Orme bird. Red tuff...
Hello Everyone,
Im here to tell the truth and nothing but the truth!
I've been flying several lines of FOR'S for almost 2 years now and heres my findings on the youngsters i've raised in 2009;
M.Orme purchases =
quick learners,good performers,200'+ normally,very acrobatic and long term flyers + great breeders and very colorful.[All around very enjoyable birds]
Husbands; very aggressive birds & and can be lazy. Had better luck flying them along with Orme birds and then by themselves.They tended to route like a homer when they did fly and loved roosting in trees until the habit was broken.''good performing birds''.
Kellys=lost patience with most of them.slow learners but seemed to have potential tawards the end.I was however impressed by the colors but not the performance.They were given away to someone to fly them out.
Fehrholz=Outstanding flyers,performers and long distance high flyers.''Outstanding''
White fehrholz=early 09 hatchs are up up and away with long tail dancing and an occasional spin etc. but nothing spectactular yet.later hatch's just starting to go up but haven't gone over the tree lines yet.they will be flagged to do so this week and a full report of the whites will be put on the forum for those of you that wanted some.
I might add that all my fehrholts birds were purchased by a fella named Alan Blevin from Arizona....lol
I have lost a few OR's this year to BOP's or over flys but they all were youngsters being trained but all in all i've had a very productive year and fun flying,breeding and training these beautiful birds.
From now on i will be calling all my different lines of FOR'S = OR's for arguements sake but will keep the bloodline records as honest and accurate as i've always done.
This is my 'Personal Experiences' with the youngsters of 2009 birds raised by me.I managed to raise over 80 youngsters of the above lines and i will only sell,trade or give away ,proven birds to those who wanted them earlier in the year as soon as im able to ship again.Some are posted on my website.
hope this helps;

Re: Orme bird. Red tuff...
P.S.-
Just thought i would add some advise to those of you that have trouble getting lazy birds,in my case husbands, to fly.This advice was given to me over a year ago by Paul Sippi and has corrected my problem of lazy birds landing in the trees or just hanging out plus hes helped me in every other aspect of training and flying FOR's.thank you again PAUL wherever you might be.
Take the birds where your lofts or kit boxs are out of view and release them or to a different area of the yard depending on the yard size.Make them fly !!! After a week or so of doing this corrected my problem.I've even went as far as taking the husbands and some young homers on a test flights on the lake[ and they have returned with the homers.Its only about 3/10's of a mile away but the birds chose to follow the homers and not swim to shore .this sounds rediculous and i don't recommend you to try this particular method but it worked for me.I tried it with another line of 2 birds but i think they chose to swim not fly.......I can now take the husbands 1/4 mile away and not worry about their return.I don't recommend this if hawks are plentiful in your area.The husbands are now very experienced in hawk evasion due to many 08 and 09 BOP attempts.They can actually be seen harrassing the hawks in the air.FOR REAL.[cat and mouse game].BOP's won't exert any unnecessary energy when the woods is plentiful with food during the summer but in the winter ,my birds are not flown as often and 1/2 will become breeders.
As you homer guys know that birds get disoriented over water and usually take a round about way to return due to atmosphere temps and humidity and the conditions on that day were good enough for the husbands to make it back and trap before the homers did.
gone fishin
