Friends Bird watching Walk - 31 species seen and/or heard

Mute Swans (pair), Canada Goose (single), Mallard, Tufted Duck (4 pairs), Sparrowhawk, kestrel, Moorhen, Coot, Black-headed Gull (flying over), Stock Dove, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Ring-necked Parakeet, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Grey Wagtail, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Mistle Thrush, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Jay, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Starling, Greenfinch.

Please add to this if anything missed.
Compare it with the list seen on Thursday 12th -some differences show how many species might be seen in any two hour walk!
Your own records of birds seen particularly if known breeding would be much appreciated.

Hello there Ralph / Egret!

It was a most enjoyable walk yesterday with good numbers in attendance & very fine weather.

Thanks to both you and Brenda for leading it - your knowledge & enthusiasm for the birds & The Meadows themselves is an inspiration.

I lost track of which birds were heard but not seen during the walk but asked Siobhán to make a note of the ones we actually saw (apologies if I've missed any or got the spelling wrong).

Black Cap
Blue Tit
Canada Goose
Carrion Crow
Chiffchaff
Coot
Great Tit
Greenfinch
Green Woodpecker
Grey Wagtail
Gull (not sure which type)
Jackdaw
Jay
Kestrel
Lesser Spotted Woodpecker
Magpie
Mallard
Moorhen
Mute Swan
Ring Necked Parakeet
Robin
Sparrow Hawk
Stock Dove
Tufted Duck
Wood Pigeon
Wren

Here's a photo of most of us gathered by Five Arches Bridge & one of a Swan shortly after he'd been making a rather impressive & boisterous display, flapping about on the surface of the water & generally putting the Geese in their place!

I'd just like to say how lovely the morning was. I particularly enjoyed the 'behind the scenes' tour of the garden.

Thanks for all the knowledge sharing, and most importantly, focusing the telescope for those of us that didn't have binoculars - it was a great help!

It was a lovely morning out on the Meadows and we saw a surprising amount of birds I thought, considering the noise a group of 50 people will make!

It was great getting better knowledge of the calls of birds as well, that will help me identify more out around my garden.
