Tree Nursery Work Day – Event Report by Michael Heath
Tree Nursery Work Day – Event Report by Michael Heath
Last Saturdays FFCM event working on Sid’s Tree nursery went ahead as planned and was bathed in some delightful autumn sunshine. However, whilst the work programme did not require a great amount of volunteers, the numbers attending were not as good as our other recent events: the River and Bat walks. Nevertheless, three tree nursery beds were prepared and common alder planted.
From the formation of the Friends there was an enthusiasm for the group to be involved with the management of the meadows and create opportunities to for people to participate in the management and conservation of the biodiversity of the open space and this was a good example of how we can make a difference.
The next planned opportunity for FFCM members and supporters to work on the Meadows is the Tree Planting Work day on Saturday 24th January. Again working with Bexley’s Parks Team this is a much larger tree planting project and its success will depend upon the support of volunteers working through a number of organised sessions during the day. Details will be sent to members nearer the time and posted on our website.
For the festive season the Wildlife and Information Centre will be open from 10am on Saturday 27th December. This is an opportunity to discuss with the committee the development of this centre and renew your subscriptions for 2009.
