Catholic Wicca
NOTE: this is all taken from a friend’s blog. i thought it would interesting to see ya'll's views on this.
quote: I Have Long Thought...
...that there is something forming out there that might be called "Catholic Wicca" or "Catholic Eclectic Paganism."
And that doesn't mean "Roman Catholic" as in Christian.
The English word "catholic" comes from the Greek "katholikos" which means "universal" or "general."
Given that there already is a "universal eclectic Wicca" out there, then perhaps one can say yes, Wicca is becoming "Catholic" or "Universal" or "General."
Elements of Catholic Wicca would include:
Belief in a triple Goddess Who invariably takes the form of Maiden, Mother and Crone
Belief that all Goddesses that have ever existed fit into the Maiden, Mother and Crone model
Belief that all Goddesses are always lunar
Belief that all Gods are always solar
Prime importance given to Goddess
The Charge of the Goddess and the Wiccan Rede as holy texts
Liturgy would consist of the typical casting of circle, invoking the Watchtowers of the Four Directions, etc
Principles such as Karma and the Threefold Law, etc
Eightfold Wheel of the Year
Things like that. There's probably more but that's what I came up with off the top of my head.
But...what if someone came along and said, "I'm Wiccan, but my Goddess isn't a triple Goddess, my lunar deity is male, and I don't do circle casting or invoking of the Watchtowers, and I don't bother with karma and threefold law," etc?
Would that person really be Wiccan?

Re: Catholic Wicca
I find this post a little confusing. Many people *only* see the term "Catholic" as relating to a branch of Christianity, so I don't see many people wanting to use this term in relation to Wicca.
Then you made a comment below .. writing
"But...what if someone came along and said, "I'm Wiccan, but my Goddess isn't a triple Goddess, my lunar deity is male, and I don't do circle casting or invoking of the Watchtowers, and I don't bother with karma and threefold law," etc?

This seems like an entirely different thought from the one above. Wicca has different meanings to different people but I do think some of the major concepts like Karma is incorporated into the faith.
