Book of Shadows/Journalling
Hi
This is probably a really dumb question, but I was wondering about my journal. I try to write everyday (just normal journal-type stuff), but I also keep track of all my rituals in there (what they are, how they went etc.) When I research wicca stuff I tend to keep my notes on my laptop. My question basically is this: is my journal my BOS?
Thanks

Re: Book of Shadows/Journalling
It sounds to me more like you have excellent notes and you're starting to compile information...but what you have is really more of a journal notebook than a BoS. Your BoS is dedicated to Wicca...information, rituals, etc. It's important to keep notes, so until you're ready to start an "official" BoS, keep journalling. Actually, my HP keeps his notes and journal-type information in a separate notebook, and his information about Wicca and our rituals in his BoS...so, I guess you could kind of say you have a Laptop of Shadows. :-D

Re: Book of Shadows/Journalling
Thanks Ariawn!
Ideally I'd love a huge book like in Charmed for my BOS (more for the opportunity to do all the celtic knotwork and illuminated lettering than anything else), but for now my laptop works. As I finish sets of research (like on a certain herb or crystal) I'm starting to print them off and store them in a nightmare before xmas file so I guess that will become my BOS, unless I can save up for the BOS I really want from brahms bookworks!
Anyways, thanks again!

Re: Book of Shadows/Journalling
I got my BoS at my first degree, but they got it from this company:
http://oberondesign.com/
The journals are a little pricey but they are most definitely affordable--the best part is that you can get new inserts, so if you want to re-do your BoS (like I'm doing right now), you can start fresh but keep the totally awesome cover. Plus, if you take it anywhere you don't want to risk getting the cover messy, you can take the insert out. They also come in a variety of sizes. Check it out!

Re: Book of Shadows/Journalling
A BoS, Personal Grimiore, what have you...
Well, it's personal. Maybe I'm off in a corner here, but I think it's important that your book reflect you. As a historian, I have to write a lot, lots of essays, lots of papers, and there's just something impersonal about typing on a piece of metal and plastic and watching those words appear in this anorexic little line of plain, perfect, text on my screen.
There's almost something sacred about literally putting pen to paper.
Remember: paper was once part of a living thing. When you connect with that paper to do something important, like write your BoS, there's a connection there.
But that's not going to happen, I don't think, If you're worried about doing it the right way.
Because that BoS is your BoS. You need to make your own impression with it, and do what feels right. And that means that you need to just be intensely you. It will feel right when you're making that connection.
Whether it's written on special paper in a fancy binding, or whether it's a scrapbook array of wire-ring binders with doodles, coffee stains, and random scraps of other paper you've written important stuff on, your BoS should reflect you. And maybe you'll be able to connect with a computer in a way that I can't, and your BoS will be a laptop. I can't say 'cause I don't know.
Am I way out in left field here, or do other people have that same sort of connection and imprinting?
