Tarot Pathworking - #1

Hi everyone,
so i`m currently working on a book that I recieved and it has opened new doors in my understanding of the tarot. I wanted to come here and post these lessons so that you guys could gain a better understanding as well.

As for a little introduction of what I will be posting - we will be focusing, for now, in the Trump cards of the tarot (the major arcana). We will be following the journey of the Fool and looking into the 7 major patterns in these cards and our goal will be to gain an understanding of these archetypes as well as how they relate to our lives.

Here in lesson 1 we will be looking at the first archetype in the Tarot, "The Self". This is represented by the Fool, 0, which is the start of our journey and the World, XXI, which is enlightenment. Place 0 and XXI next to eachother and meditate on the symbols that you see before you. Look at the similarities in these two cards, see what has changed, what do you see and feel about The Self in these cards? How do these relate to your life?

If you would like to particpate here please feel free to post what you notice below this message emoticon here is some of what I have come up with (not everything i`ve noticed is here by the way).

**just as a side note, please keep in mind that everyone will not be using the same deck so everyone will have different answers**
-----------------------------

The Fool - 0 : Standing before a path symbolizes the journey to come, in my deck a crow flies with the person and the crow/raven is a symbol of the mysteries to be revealed to the Fool on the path. The tattoo of the rose of the arm is the symbol of the soul, the true Self. darker colors in this card symbols the lack of knowledge of the Self and the mysteries.

The World - XXI: The person in this card is symbolised as perfection with bright colors and more "beauty" than that in 0, a completed wreth behind the character symbolizes the completion, the rose being bigger and brighter than in 0. in 0 the character looks nervous about the journey ahead, but in XXI the character looks complete, hard work has paid off to reach enlightenment.

RedRaven, this sounds awesome! After I did the excercise, I came up with a lot of ideas.

TheFool: journey (spiritual/mundane), eternal life, new things, rebirth, growth, peace, void, learning, possiblity, imperfection, separtness, search, seeking

TheWorld: complete, mastery, peace, balance, beauty, knowledge, wisdom, enlightenment, spirituality, divinity, nirvana, bliss, ecstacy, freedom, initiation, perfection, unity

While looking deeply at the cards I realized that the character in the world is really the transformation of The Fool. It shows how he has transended all, even his gender.

This reminded me of the Greek Mystery cults of Persephone and Demeter. An art piece was found showing a man going through initiation. He starts as a man and ends as a woman.

This might also be connected to Witchcraft, specifically Gardnerian Witchcraft. In "The Illustrated Guide to Wicca", the authors say that at first degree the male becomes the God and at the 3rd degree, the male becomes the Goddess (and vice versa).

I don`t think its so much a man becoming a God and then later becoming a Goddess. really, you and I as guys becoming goddess? *LOL* i think not emoticon in my deck the fool looks more like a male, but still a little androginoce (ok i know i butchered the spelling of that word). I believe the symbolism here of starting with one gender at the start of the journey, 0, and ending with another at the completion, XXI, is all about transformation and not so much the gender itself. but keep looking into these two cards and you`ll see more emoticon look at what the character in the cards is wearing, what the background in the card shows, look at the animals that are in the cards (depending on what deck you use), look at facial expressions. everything is symbolism and understanding more and more will lead you further down this path ... which I myself and really enjoying emoticon

p.s. i`ll add a new section to pathworking about once a week so more people can read and hopefully get involved before we move on.

the one i`m working through is called "The Element Tarot Handbook: An Initiation into the Key Elements of the Tarot" by Naomi Ozaniec. this books covers archetypes and meditations as well as a little bit of tarot mixed with qabala, such as the 22 trumps and their place in the 22 paths. its not bad but its certainly a beginner book into pathworking so if you get this book you`ll probably end up getting more books on the same subject to take you deeper, but a good place to start nonetheless. if you want the book buy a used copy from amazon, they`re selling for about $1.50

both cards, in fact all the cards in the deck, have the black cat in them. in the beginning, the cat is worried about the Fool about to step off the edge. at the end the cat is celebrating is happy.

if the black cat is our guide through the Tarot, and the Major Arcana our life path, then we are the black cat. we start off not sure if we should have blind faith and jump or be cautious. by then end, we have no cares and we celebrate.
