Dervishes and Paragons in PvP

This week's "State of the Game" article addresses how Dervishes and Paragons are being incorporated into the PvP metagame, and some potential counters against them.

Re: Dervishes and Paragons in PvP

One of the cheap builds we ran into recently was the SF ele team that was also using some Paragon shouts. Going through Paragon skills leads one quickly to "They're on Fire!"(10//10). This reduces damage received by allies within ear shot from anyone on fire for 10 seconds by 5 to 29%. Combining this with SF or a few copies of Anthem of Flame (5/1/10 - For 10 seconds, the next attack Skill used by each ally within earshot also causes Burning for 1...3 seconds.) we could reduce the amount of physical damage received. Using this method could release the monks from an Aegis chain and maybe allow one or two to carry Extinguish (for the next time we run into a burning group).

Although I wonder if a group using burning as a primary weapon will also be carrying Extinguish themselves?

I'm not a big fan of reacting to individual matches, but SF sure does seem to be persistant in it's popularity, especially at the level we are currently playing at. It may not be a bad idea to bring Extinguish, regardless of which way we go for our offense.

Or you could just have one of your monks go M/Me and bring Distraction, which would hurt SF teams a lot more I'd think.

PS is a tough skill to use with any reliability, plus the best you can do is turn their spike off for 12 seconds, at the cost of making yourself completely useless for 8 seconds.

I'm not a big fan of Psychic Distraction. Better still is killing the damn SF Eles while removing burning at a fast pace.

I wasn't talking about Psychic Distraction. But the domination Hex, which I thought was called just "Distraction".

Which is "For the next 8 seconds, the next skill the target uses is disabled for an additional X seconds". Even at just a handful of points in Domination it ends up being something like 20 seconds...

No, it was Diversion, I believe...

To shutdown SF...

Defiant Was Xinrae
Elite Item Spell. Hold Xinrae's ashes for up to 5...10 seconds. While you hold her ashes, enemy Spells that the caster and the caster's allies use against you are disabled for an additional 5...17 seconds.

That skill is worded so strangely...

The caster line. If they just dropped that part to say "enemy spells used against you are disable for an additional 5-17 seconds." would actually fit what the skill does, and cause a little less confusion. emoticon

lol... I didn't know of any Mes skill named Distraction, and I've done quite a bit of Mesmering. I even opened up GWFreaks to search for it, and the closest I could come is Psychic Distraction.

Now that I know what you mean, yeah, I might just agree with you. Even so, you only manage to slow their spike, and only on one or two (at best) casters. We had Lestalt spamming an Arcane Echo'd Diversion with Mantra of Recovery up, and it still wasn't enough. It helped prolong the inevitable, and perhaps if we had our spike coordinated better at that time, it would have been long enough for us to inflict smoe pain on on them before our monks ran dry, but as things were, we still got burned. (pun intended emoticon )

Dunno. I remember the Dragon Ivy's in Factions, outside of Zen Daijun used it. I think it was Diverson. Not sure right now... and it's kinda bugging me...

But it's more effective in my mind than Defiant. Defiant requires the enemy to actually be targetting the one person holding the ashes. (Or so I have found, despite the confusing syntax of the skill description) Where as the Diversion thing can be applied regardless of what they're targetting.

Get a full Domination Magic mesmer, it ends up being something like 60 seconds of Black out. That really hurt me when I get slapped with it monking in RA... ^^;; Dunno. It'd be something worth thinking of in my mind.
