Easy as Pie.
I gained a lot of Faction, about 3 K, in about 16 minutes of PvPing tonight.
Now, you're probably saying to yourself "How, what craziness is this? A really lucky run at RA? A streak in the Heroes' Ascent?!"
No my brothers!
I ventured into Hero vs. Hero battles.
Sadly you cannot get consecutive wins there. SO no Gladiator titles. Nor any fame, so no Hero titles. (I would think a PvP mode with 'hero' in the title should give you a hero title...)
The deal for those that haven't checked it out is simple. One human. Three heroes. Kill count is usually the name of the game. First to 20 wins. There are shrines you can capture for bonuses, but I never really noticed them being all that good. (With the exception of the Battle Cry shrine. +run speed, +attack speed, and +skill recharge speed kicks ass.)
Now, as it is four man teams, I've noticed the that the trend tends to be 3 damage dealers, and one monk.
What I was running was two monks (One healing, one protection). This is to prevent the very thing I did.
I was a Ranger, Broadhead Arrow...
And I took Goren along as my "Deadly Warrior" build.
Simple Strategy. Take Broadhead Arrow. Apply upside the head of the monk the enemy brings. Laugh as they never get a heal off.
While they ressurect about 5 seconds later on their corner of the map (It's never a rez in the middle of the battlefield) pick apart Elementalists, Assassins, etc at will.
Most of my matches were along the lines of 20-2 victories. For each kill, 20 faction, +100 for winning.
They're all really quick kills too as the enemy doesn't seem to bring self heals.
So go. Laugh. Make merry. Kill, and gain faction Easy as Pie.

Re: Easy as Pie.
Did you happen to run into any of those Searing Flames builds that seem to cause so many headaches?

Re: Easy as Pie.
I ran into one that was more like a Hyrdogen Bomb version of Seering Flames. Zhed and Sousuke doing the SF thing, and the fleshie doing Water magic to keep everyone slow and together I suppose.
It wasn't all that strong. Still was just one Broadhead Arrow to the monk, then picking apart the Elementalists.
With two monks scrambling about, a warrior, and a ranger you don't tend to 'pack together'. Dunkoro and Tahlkora were running so much they were always at opposite sides. Goren was up close, I was in the middle.
Thus only one person was getting SFed at a time. With one as a healing monk with stuff like Healing Breeze, and another as a Protection Monk with condition removal... you can usually heal up before they really start hurting.
As well my Healing Monk, Dunkoro was packing Spell Breaker as his elite.
Tahlkora by the way was running Zealous Benediction as her elite.

Re: Easy as Pie.
I picked up Zealous Benediction a few weeks ago and quickly placed that on Tahlkora. I believe it is there for the duration now. Nice skill for her.

Re: Easy as Pie.
Interesting. I may have to try this.
So I'm guessing that between you and Goren you get hits often enough to interrupt pretty much everything?
What about condition removal? Do you use any 'cover' conditions so the dazed doesn't get removed?
Oh, and one more question. How well does Tahlkahora do with Zealous? I think it's an awsome spell, but obviously only if used correctly. I hope the AI is smart enough to only use it when your below 50%.

Re: Easy as Pie.
I've noticed Tahlkora seems to hit it the moment you drop to about 1/3rd your maximum health. Sometimes she gets screwed out of ten energy by Dunkoro hitting a heal a fraction of a second before her. Generally though she does well enough with it.
And no, I don't really use Cover coditions. I had Goren set up as a "Deadly Warrior" with an Axe, so he had Deep Wound.
But with him swinging an Axe, and with the stance "Lightning Reflexes", and of course using a shortbow, I can attack fast enough to interrupt even 1/4th second casting time spells. (Since dazed triples casting time, of course)
Also I tend to put Dunkoro on "Guard" so i'll have him occasionally tossing attacks in to help increse the frequency of Interupts.
I keept Tahlkora though on "Avoid Combat" so she won't stand right next to Dunkoro for those Searing Flames.

Re: Easy as Pie.
Okay... for those that don't know, there is now a title for winning battles in hero vs. hero.
125 wins (They didn't keep track of previous wins) will net you the title "Commander". Not sure about beyond that. Unlike in Heroes' Ascent you cannot chain victories for multiple fame, so it is 125 wins, flat.
This also means a lot more 'serious' PvPers seem to have come to HvH. There was approximately 8 times as many people as usual there last night.
I found with these new 'serious' PvPers and their builds that my build was not working as much.
Paragons with Cautery Signet, and 'two monk' teams were somewhat common themes I saw.
So, here is what I've found.
Okay, it's not a straight "kill count" match like I thought. It's a race to twenty, but controlling the "Center Shrine" gives you points like the shines in AvA do.
When near the Center shrine your characters have "To the Pain!" on them. They deal 10% more damage, and have 10% less health.
Each map has one Shrine that when captured, will give you an ally.
Unlike in AvA with the Saltspray Dragon Roost, this shrine is VERY important. As you know you can capture a point if you have more people than someone else near there. That extra ally counts.
(And for those that don't know, like AvA you're auto rezzed after 9 seconds or so, with no DP, and the maps are small enough it's hard to kill someone and cap in their absense)
There are generally two or three other shrines. The bonuses from these are nice, but I've never found them to be mission critical.
For example, shrines of "mending" which give you all +3 regen, the "Battle Cry" shrine, which gives you a 25% movement speed boost. "Health" shrines give you a 120 Health total boost. Energy Shrines I have yet to use.
My Current Team came after tweeking last night, trying to find what tactics and builds work against these "serious" PvPers.
What I've found so far is at the Start of the match I flag my heroes to go to, and stay at the Center Shrine. I've been using a Warrior Build to run around the map otherwise capturing undefended (Or Lightly Defended as I saw one shrine of Mending someone kept parking Norgu on) to boost my team.
My team, my "Hold the Center Shrine" team, consists of Dunkoro as a Healing Monk, Tahlkora of a Protection Monk, and Razah as a Communing, Spirit Lord ritualist.
Even if the enemy goes full court, all four on that team of mine, they've been able to weather the storm in their first three matches.
And if the enemy can't capture the shrine from them, I'll win. The only danger is if they have a high defense team, all four of them, attacking the shrine and Razah can't get the kill. (Though with 4 attacking spirits and 135 damage burn....)
Then I have to race in to even the odds, so the enemy doesn't have more than me and caps the shrine.
It's very hectic, very hard now against these good people.
But you really feel like a good tactician and player when you get the win.

Re: Easy as Pie.
Took my first foray into the Heroes Arena using a modified version of this build. (the characters name is actually Damon Isas Build )
Definitely a different version of PvP. I like some of the different tactics required with the shrine capturing and the buffs/bonuses that they provide. Although the center shrine definitely seems like the main focus.
First match I almost had an amazing comeback, down 18 to 6, and ended up losing 20 to 16.
Second timeI decided to spend my time exploring the map while taking a beatdown.
Won the third battle in a see-saw battle that ended up 18 to 17 in my favor.
It's definitely a lot of fun.

Re: Easy as Pie.
5 and 0 now since modifying my build.
Me: Broadhead ranger
Jin: 'Thumper' - R/W with pet and Rampage as One
Talkahora: Prot with Life Sheath
Dunkoro: WoH healer
The tactics have been the same for most. Cap the NPC shrine or Siege shrine first, then move to the center shrine.
I'm enjoying this more than Randoms...

Re: Easy as Pie.
Awesome Andovar.
It's my favorite PvP right now. Well, other than the various AvA type matches, the battles, Aspenwood, Quarry.
Though unlike those matches I don't have to worry about leechers.
