Feel free to ask away. We all started some where. For me it was in Factions 15 months ago.... emoticon

From reading your intro, you might want to give some of the different classes a try in PvE until you find one you feel comfortable with. I was lucky, the first thing I ever played was Ranger and even after play most of the rest I still love playing Ranger more than anything else.

But anyway, by trying things out in PvE first you'll learn about the different classes, earn some skills (since you can get them for free in Prophecies as rewards for quests) which can also be used with your PvP characters. And, get used to the interface for GW. When you find a character you like playing then work on geting Balthazar faction to get the skills and equipment you want to PvP with.

Wish there was a way to transfer Balz faction between players. But....

Re: GvG

I would honestly have to say that GvG is realy not a great place to "get your feet wet" as far as PvP is concerned. There is so much going on so quickly that I doubt you'd really be able to learn anything from it.

As far as reading up on things, check out the main GW page and look at teh "competetive" link. Read all you can stand from the articles there under PvP Primer for the basics and State of the Game for some more in depth stuff. Not all of it pertains to GvG, but there are may aspects of PvP that cross all boundaries.

Other sources for information would include Guildwarsguru.com/forum and guildwars.incgamers.com/forums . Keep in mind that these are both completely fan-run sites, and as such will be susceptible to poor attitudes- Guru moreso than INCGamers.

On eother resource that you should check out would be Observer Mode. In the game, under your Options button, you will find "Observe". Click this to select from a list of matches that you may view from the top guilds. If it's within 24(?) or 48 (?) hours of our last match, you may view that also. Things may make little or no sense at first, but being able to watch whats going on may help you out a bit, or at the very least, let you know what you'll be getting in to.

You're already off on the right track though, in making use of your best source- these forums. Although no one here will claim to be a PvP expert, the majority of us have been around a while, and we're not afraid to answer questions.

I agree with Dan that GvG is NOT a good place to start out. Aside from the fact that it's pretty complicated, it can be really hard. It may leave you soured on the whole PvP experience.

If they still have the early PvP arena in Ascalon, I'd start there. Otherwise, you should make a PvP character and do some Alliance Battles. You can really screw up there and no one will even notice emoticon But definitely ask any questions you have here or in game.

I wasn't sure if you could get into AB with only Prophecies??? I was wondering the best way to get Balz faction and the only thing I could think of was the battle Isles???

Maybe you can since it a Luxon Guild and Alliance?

No AB if you don't own factions. However, the zaishen challenge is a good start. Roll up a PVP character and there are challenges built just for teaching the fine art of GW PVP.

Of course if you would give your preference of character I am assuming Necro. Someone I am sure can work a PVP necro build that would work well in Zaishen. Not me since I am not that familiar with Necro but I could work on other builds for you if you have an interest.

On top of everything already said here, if you want to get a bit of a feel for GvG, you can use the observer mode by hitting the "B" key while in town and watching some of the GvG matches. You can even log on to TS and listen in on our Saturday night battles just to here the communication that goes on.

Like Darken said, if they still have the early PvP arenas in Prophecies that's a great place to get your feet wet. It's been a while since I've run around much in Prophecies but it seems like some time back they made it so you had to go to the Great Temple of Balthazar to get to most or all of the PvP arenas.

There are many guild members, myself included, that would be happy to go with you to the Team arena to help with the intro to PvP or we could even put together a PvP scrimmage amongst ourselves in our guild hall. All you have to do is ask.

It shouldn't take you long at all to get the feel for it and be ready for a GvG night. GvG isn't a huge part of our guild and I don't really consider myself much of a PvPer but for me, the Saturday GvG nights has been some of the most fun I've had in GW. Glad to see your interest. emoticon

Keep an eye on our current team build thread:
http://com3.runboard.com/bheroesetc.f2.t11401

If you can unlock the skills on any of those bars, and get comfortable playing with any of those builds, you will be ready to sub in on a GVG match and test it out.

I second the Zaishen stuff for a good starter spot. Also try to have fun and don't let anything frustrate you. Keep the questions coming, always glad to help.

I had forgotten about the whole Zaishen challenge thing. That is indeed the very best palce to get your PvP feet wet.

In fact, I believe you actually have to "graduate" through some of the challenges there to gain access to the arenas, do you not?

One thing I forgot also was that you should use one of your slots and create a PVP character. That will make things much simpler. You can roll them up and then trash them and roll anther character up pretty quickly.
