Picked up Nightfall last night!!!

Just wanted to pick your brains on Hero's. I've been so far out of the loop I'd appreciate any build advice for the hero's. I took a quick glance here on the forums but I didn't see any recommended Hero builds anywhere. I took a look over at PVX wiki and found some highly recommended builds but I wanted to hear what your guys thoughts are.

Are there any Hero leveling tricks?

Basically I'm looking for any advise to make my solo gaming less frustrating when teaming up is not an option. Thanks in advance for any help you provide this NOOB!!!

Congrats on the purchase!
I think the best way to level up heroes is to use the Hunts. You will need to get off the island and over to the mainland for the Hunts to work for you. Stick to the primary quests to get there that much faster. If you do team up with a group, leave the group and add your heroes before accepting quest rewards so they gain the xp reward as well.

As to builds, I use a basic heal build for Dunkoro with Healer's Boon as my elite (from NF). For Talhkora, I use a basic prot build with Life Sheath as my elite. The rest I shift around based on what I will be encountering.

Peleus Dorado (warrior)
Skye Du Loch (necro)
Jhonnie Macdhal (ranger)
Wunder Kid (monk)
Son of Dhal (elementalist)
Spirit of Dhal (rit)

It's hard to say what are good builds for heroes unless we see them in game. There are some skills heroes don't use correctly (ZB for one), but, for the most part, they should be okay however you set them up. Just ping their bar over Guild Chat if you have any questions.

If you haven't gotten there yet (it's pretty early in the storyline) select Jin (the ranger) over Solsuke (the ele).
Then set her up as an interrupt ranger. Heroes instantaneous response makes them wicked interrupters. emoticon

As far as leveling them is concerned, the quest rewards 'trick' is the best method I know of.

Since I too am leveling heroes, I use the quest turn-ins and scrolls of insight. Save/buy those scrolls and use them in the right area. I popped two last night in the foriegn quarter and got both Koss and Jin a few levels from that run.
Also, we can run the challange mission in NF (for hero armor) and pop them there as well.

I have run the starter island with just the 4 of us. (Me and 3 heroes)
Seemed to work well if you are careful.
By the time it is cleared, they were around 16. Then on to the mainland.

They have changed things so that it doesn't matter how many people are in your party, you get the same amount of gold and exp. Also Heroes gain exp faster if they are lower level than you, so just play with them and they will catch up.

You can also take your Heroes and tame pets with them and level them up as well.

Well Gard... he's my thought.

Forget about the "PvX" builds or whatever. What you don't want to do is get some particular powerhouse build. It's all about teamwork. Granted, your heroes are stupid, and won't combo as well as humans will, but you can still set it up fairly well.

For example you could...

Run Koss as a Sword/Tactic/Wilderness Survival W/R. Use skills like the various bleeding, deep wound, cripples, and say, Scavenger's Focus (Wilderness Prep that deals more damage to enemies who have a condition).

Then run saaaay, Gwen as a Illusion/DOmination Mesmer wtih Fragility, Shatter Delusions, and the various Mesmer "When it ends you suffer X for Y seconds" hexes.

And finish up with a Ranger that has Broad Head Arrow, Screaming shot, apply poison, etc.

It's all about Teamwork.

Hmm.... some Core Skills I've seen the Heroes fail at. Well... Prot monks in general are pretty weak at heroing. You'll end up having to take a BiP or Blood Ritual Necromancer to keep them in decent energy. Otherwise they'll say, use Prot Spirit, after a battle for 10 energy just to give a wounded ally the Divine Favor healing... Oh, and healing touch is... yeah... they'll charge into a melee to use it on someone else. Thus why the general Infuser Hero builds I see won't work very well.

Of course any sort of Interrupt Hero works AMAZINGLY. Better than anyone, ever. THus the reason why I almost always have Margrid or Jin in my party.

Blood Battery Necromancers work very well. Go N/Mo, use stuff like BiP, Blood Bond, Vampiric Gaze, Heal Area, etc.

MMs are overdone and frankly in a lot of the harder areas I find they cause more problems due to over aggroing with their undead.

Monk Heroes are standard, but I find their AI leaves something to be desired. You often have to coach them when to use things like Heal Party or Aegis because they won't do it otherwise, the Glyph of Lesser Energy also is almost never used by them, so I generally don't bother with that. You gotta put their Ressurection skills to Manual Orders only or else the first time someone dies in a battle every single monk (And any Hero or Henchman with a Ressurection Signet) will stop fighting and try to ressurect.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I guess I read too much. I was reading that people dont use Monk Hero's and instead use N/Rt's and all sorts of goofy stuff. I guess the best thing for me is to use my Hero's to help learn the new skills, and see what works best. You learn by doing so I'll just have to see what works best for me, and if I run into any question, I have a good group of people here to bounce idea's off of.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Since you mentioned N/Rt, it reminded me, the heroes make excellent minion masters.
Granted, the MM's can make a lot of areas pretty easy. But hey, I don't always want a challenge. Sometimes I'm just looking to get a skill cap, unlock a map point, or do some other mundane task.
