Lockpick question So this morning I was reading about lockpicks and the chances of them breaking at; Wiki Link.
If I'm reading it right, the base percent chance to keep the lockpick is a formula based on the price of the key for that chest and the price of the lockpick.
My question is this, I've been buying keys in bulk from people selling them for $1250 ea. I assume they are buying them from a discount merchant for $1200 in cities their guild owns. Am I correct in thinking now that this isn't such a good idea?
If I'm doing the math right (never been one of my strong points), if you are opening a chest that has a key value of $750 with a $1500 lockpick you have a 50% base chance to keep your pick. But the same chest with a $1200 pick your base chance drops to 37%.
Can someone who knows or can read through the link above and let me know for sure tell me, am I better off buy lockpicks from merchants for $1500?

Re: Lockpick question I thought a Lockpick is a Lockpick is a Lockpick. It did not matter how much you spent on the lockpick. Another thing along those lines is if you picked up a lockpick as a drop you would never have a chance to keep it. And I know that on lockpicks you pick you have your standard chance to retain it.

Re: Lockpick question I think the link you are referring to infers this and it seems to work. It does not mean that is how the game mechanics work. His method works but the game may use some other method.
Seondly the price of the lockpick is 1500 gold retail. That is what the % to retain is calculated off of. It is not calculated of of the discounted price or the trade price it would be impractical for NCSoft track all of the information about where each individual lockpick was purchased and for how much.
The result keep buying the cheap lockpicks they work the exact same way as the merchant bought picks.
